| No one appears to be commenting on Matt Parcell's recent habit of taking out referees.
During the last Leeds game against Cas, he ran across Kendall when Cas were scoring and clattered him to the ground, and I thought there looked to be an element of petulance about it, almost as if he was hoping he could blame Kendall for not being able to get to the Cas scorer.
Yesterday, he took out James Child TWICE, both times knocking him to the ground.
I know accidents can happen, but Stewart Houston got banned for knocking over a ref when he was looking in the air, yet Parcell can take out a ref three times in two games and nothing gets said, and all looked avoidable, with Parcell cutting across the ref. Bizarre.

| I thought he could have probably done more to avoid the collision. Thin end of the wedge for me, needs dealing with, how long before an amateur referee gets 'accidentally' taken out - any contact should be a red. Arm on shoulder/brushing past etc, I believe they have something similar in the NFL.

| Not any contact but avoidable contact should be some sort of discipline.
I haven't seen Parcell 3 incidents but I'd judge by the fact, if the ref was a tackler, would he have tried harder to avoid contact.

If one of the games "bad boys" had taken out the ref, as Parcel did, there would be uproar and the RL world would be demanding a long ban.
Child wasn't bumped he was fully knocked over.
Quite a strange incident.

So was Kendall the week before. Parcell ran right across him.

| Have to see the ones yesterday again before judging. The Cas one is a bit iffy, it’s tough though as he could’ve avoided the ref but only if he gives up chasing back as Kendell blindly runs into the line Parcell needed to take to try to get there.
Does seem to be a lot of these happening in the 3/4 years than previously, and pretty much most occasions the ref doesn’t help the situation with poor positioning. Parcell is hardly a dirty player and even if you put down the Cas one as frustration given the scoreline then against London we were leading and given he’d been involved with the ref the previous week and then earlier in this London game then doubt he’s doing it as a deliberate thing.

| No blame on the ref.
He can't just disappear.

He can position himself better though. The one against Cas by Kendell he slows down whilst moving diagonally towards the posts, should realise that they could be players chasing back trying to stop the try or tryscorer getting closer to the posts. It’s similar to when you see high bombs put up in the corner and a defender drifts across to block an attacker except on these occasions the ref doesn’t realise he’s doing it or doing it as a tactic, doesn’t mean he can’t be wiser about it though.
Refs can’t just disappear but at the same time we shouldn’t get to a point where defenders chasing back come to a complete halt because the ref has run across the line they defender NEEDS to take.

The ref has 26 players to avoid, they have 1.
Of course he should try and not be in the way but equally he has to be close enough to make decision.
If it's a genuine accident then no ban but for me that requires the ref to turn and run in to a player who was near him not running or something like that.
He was in my running line is not an excuse.
It's all on the player for me.

He does have to be close to make a decision but that gives him some room to work with. A defender doesn’t have a choice he has to get a certain spot, not just somewhere near. Whilst they’re 26 players on the field he realistically has to avoid a few on any given play. I’ve now seen one of the London incidents and again it’s from Leeds chasing back near their tryline and Child is running backwards and just stops dead in his tracks, when you’re a defender sprinting back and someone who would’ve been out of your way had he taken 1 or 2 more steps back stops then yes it’s hard to expect that defender to stop in time.
Like I mentioned before these incidents of contact with the referee seem to have risen massively in the last 3/4 years so questions should be asked of the referees and if they’re doing their bit to avoid being in the way. Or do we think players from all clubs on a whole have suddenly decided to start running into refs for a laugh.

So are you saying all the different refs are running in to platers for a laugh?

| I can only remember Houston at Widnes and Hock loads of times. McShane was let off I think.
