| hi guys,
firstly id just like to point out i do not know what the rules are regarding what exactly people can say on here without getting the board into bother. forgive me if this isnt appropriate
i was wondering if anyone knew how i could watch the match between wakefield vs castleford from 2006? (online preferably or otherwise) i am having real trouble finding it. i will be using it as a source for writing a postgraduate piece at uni. i believe i asked when i initially joined the board but that is some time ago. it is now more important as it should provide useful in my work. who wouldn't want to watch that game again ey?
thanks for any help

| I'd only just forgotten about that night.....thanks for reminding me .
However, every RL fan who have said the MPG concept will ruin teams, look at this one...10 years later and both clubs are still going and there is still talk about that game!

I take your point but that game in 2006 wasn't meant to just be a 1 off game, it was the culmination of a whole season for both teams. It just so happened that the fixtures fell the way they did.

Your recovery is remarkable, but I fear would not have been repeated if we had lost that game!
If we go down, we stay down, unless or until we sort a Stadium out. The clock is ticking for BV as she stands.

Dont post this on the Bulls forum, they have a slightly different opinion.
As someone else has posted, the Wakefield - Cas game was a freak fixture in a freak season and with Franchises and stuff happening, it took on added significance and had the result been different, I dont think that Trinity would be in the top flight now or, perhaps even worse.
This type of game should have been left to happen by accident and wait until there is another blue moon.
What we have now is deliberately putting livelihoods, that are at risk, on public display and whilst i certainly creates excitement, there is too much at stake in a one off game.
As I said, Bradford's cause hasn't been helped by the concept and they are unlikely to be the last.

| I've never understood the logic behind Bradford fans complaining about the Million Pound Game. They finished 5th in the middle 8s so it was a second chance they wouldn't have had otherwise, and without the middle 8s we could either have top goes up automatically which would have been Leigh, or a play off system with a grand final which would then be a one off game for promotion which they apparently think is so wrong.
The Million Pound Game is essentially a better replacement for the Championship Grand Final as it can now involve SL sides. If teams don't like it they could always try the novel idea of not being so crap that they end up in it.

Like most things, it depends which view point you want to take.
They may well think that they finished as the highest placed Championship club and "deserved" to be promoted.
Also, they gambled very heavily that season on getting straight back into SL and that is why they and especially James Lowes took the loss so badly.
The only way to view the MPG is as an extra chance to make it to SL and try and take pressure off people but, the reality is something totally different and by having a system that ensures such a game, with all that comes with it, for me, is wrong and I say this knowing that Trinity came out on top.

| I like the concept but hate being in it.
I've seen Wakefield at Wembley and in the Yorkshire Cup Final and playing the Aussies, but good as all those were, the Cas million pound game is the most memorable to me.
For the Lowes or the Bradford fans to bemoan it implies they think they shouldn't be relegated.
The only difference between the game and coming bottom is that you have a get out of jail game to stop the drop. The result if you lose is no different to going or staying down without the game.
It goes wrong when expectations are raised to a level where you expect or think it's your right to be in SL. And in Bradford's case financially cheat (or at least badly manage) the system to do exactly that.
I like the 8s concept. If there was an improvement to make it is in the top 8 not the Middle 8. The middle 8 is far more exciting.

| The fundamental issue isn't the million pound game itself but the fact that relegation (however decided) causes huge issues because of the gulf in funding/quality/exposure between SL and the championship.

In some ways, I think the build up was better than the game itself.
Having to win 4 from our last 6 games and get some help from Salford (who beat Cas to ensure that there was a last chance saloon to drink in), set the game up nicely for Trinity.
Cas were on the slide and relatively speaking, we were on the up and with Kear full of confidence (at least outwardly), the game was set.
Belle Vue full to the rafters, supporters trying to get a glimpse of the action from wherever they could, it was fantastic.
But, the tension, during the game was unbearable and even though they are our our closest rivals, you had to spare a though for the Cas fans.
Trinity had sent them down (again) and another of the "Cat's" nine lives had been used up.

| Joined that site and watched the original MPG back, for the first time in ages.
Interesting to hear Eddie and Stevo being as negative about Wakey as they've continued to be to this day; in the opening few minutes, Stevo says "it's good to see this place with an atmosphere for once..."
The most striking thing about that team though, is that it contained only 1 British born player in the starting 13 - it's a good thing that can't happen any more.

Although, if I remember correctly, Kear went on to build a predominently British squad which did very well.
For me, the most memorable recent Wakey game is definitely the 'original' MPG vs Cas. Very scary and tense although I always felt we would win even though Cas were leading at HT. I couldn't get to the Bradford MPG, being based overseas but watched a live stream. I like the concept although I don't want us to be there again thank you very much!

There were three British born players in the 17 that night, Jamie Rooney, one of the March's and Kevin Henderson.
Wakefield: Halpenny, Demetriou, Evans, Henderson, Tadulala, Rooney, Jeffries, Watene, Obst, Korkidas, Solomona, MacGillivray, Betham.
Replacements: March, Elima, Catic, Latu
I wasn't nervous for this game as I always had faith we would win. The MPG against Bradford was a different matter. 80 minutes spent touching cloth.
