With Saints nose diving under Cunnigham and the near collapse of Leeds the two great entertainers are gone. Warrington are the best I've seen this season, they are good to watch but not what I'd call "entertainers" more a machine made of quality parts.

Now we can't tackle as well as most team though we have made a dramatic improvement. We can't always keep it together for the full 80 and our dicipline is at times questionable. However I defy anyone to find another club in SL who is playing the brand of cavalier unpredictable rugby we are. The amount of tries we are scoring from our own half is quite stunning and three interception tries in the last two games is always worth a watch.

What is especially entertaining is that when the "better" teams think they have the measure of us we pop back up and stun them with a maverick bit of trickery from nowhere, for example Lyne against Salford and BJB against Warrington - who knew Jowitt could kick - and who kne BJB would have been aware enough to follow it up!. You can't Coach that it's just there and it's a very rare thing especially at Wakefield.

I think it's fair to say that I have seen as many great tries both individual and team this last two month than I have in the previous 15 years of watching SL. I've certainly never seen them in such concentration, not even in 2004 where Solomona was the main provider. Very few of our tries are "flop" overs to quote the sage, most go through the hands and nearly all start beyond the 20 meter mark. Some like TJ's special start on or very near our try line.

It's not text book RL and I fear one day soon we'll have a big misfire and look like chumps. However I don't care, I can take those so long as most of the time we play as we are playing. If we are honest we've not seen much in the way of great RL in the last forty years at BV, but what we are getting at the moment is special, even Saints fans would like to see their team playing like we do at the moment.

Keep calm lads and keep it going. We are IMO "the entertainers" and so long as the players don't buy into the hype to much and just enjoy it for what it is we can see the season out that way.

I appreciate the "how dare you sneering brigade" from certain other clubs will be on here but frankly stuff them, I know what I've seen!

Finally lets get the message out, 5,200 against Warrinton wasn't good enough and was less than this team desrves.

I think Castleford fans might disagree despite all their injuries, not to mention FC and Le's Cats, although it's good that people are now taking notice of our progress

This Maverick brand is Chessies trade mark. He allows his teams to break from 'the structure' and express themselves (He did this at KR when they had a fully fit team but injuries curtailed this and KR decided he wasn't right for them, lets be honest Wakefield were the winners there).

The structure that almost every super league team is playing is making the game 'dull' and the teams that break the 'norm' are the ones which are entertaining to watch. Lets be fair, this is the same squad that Mr Smith couldn't get playing together. I bet you that with CC in charge all the players turn up and leave with a smile in their face, and when you enjoy what you are doing you have won half the battle. Keep it up my man

We remind me of Cas - painful as it may be to Trinity fans, we appear to be playing in the same mould as them; heads up, with freedom and actually enjoying ourselves. It makes for a very entertaining brand of rugby - although we do need to a bit more consistent and to achieve that, I think we'll eliminate a few weak links. Also got to get discipline under control - too many daft penalties and a spate of sin bins in recent weeks - that's not a good look.

Definately enjoying the games more than any time in the last 10 years. It will be interesting to see a) how far this takes us & b) what will happen when "five drives & a kick" JK comes next season?

Now the top eight is looking more than a possibility, I think we should carry on as we are with the cavelier rugby. If we keep playing like we are and getting the results, why not top four!! What odds on a top four of Wire, FC, Catalans and Wakey!!?

Okay, I'll stop dreaming now and get back to the reality of a Wire, Pies, Saints & Leeds top four! Well maybe not Leeds!

five drives & a kick - eusa_naughty.gif
Been covered ad nauseum on here, that approach was adopted (and successfully) at an appropriate time ie we were scratching round for players etc etc (I cleaned my boots off twice icon_smile.gif ) and that brand of rugby was fit for purpose. If that is all you can remember JK for, then I must have been watching a different club at the time!

Will be very surprised if JK has much involvement at all in what actually occurs out on the pitch...Chezzie seems to be doing okay on that front.
JK will be doing the same as Peacock is at HKR, I suspect.

I agree with Vasty.

Over the 30 years that I have followed Trin, I have never seen the amount of quality, long range tries.
Confidence certainly helps, when players begin to chase lost causes and back up, just in case and we are witnessing this every week.
We also have a superb team spirit, with excellent scramble defence and a never say die attitude (Widnes away being a prime example)
There's still plenty to work on, defence is loose at times and discipline could also be better but, we are THE form team in the comp and long may it continue.

Nobody but, nobody, gave us any realistic chance of being in the top 8, especially after losing 5 from 6 at the start of the season.

Our for has us right up there and we have beaten Leeds, Huddersfield, Warrington and Wigan along the way.
Trinity have nobody to fear and if we can maintain our form and stay confident, who knows what the end of the season has in store.

One cautionary note though. Widnes managed to win 6 from 7 and now, they cant buy a win so, feet on the ground but, lets enjoy the ride.

We have a difficult run of games to end the season - so I still think top 8 could elude us - but provided we continue to compete and don't revert to type, we've had the best season I can remember in years. We may still end up in the M8's, with some sides around us who are due to improve - what if Leeds, Shudds and Salford hit a purple patch at the business end and suddenly, the M8's becomes a really scary prospect?

I would caution against hubris - we're in a good place now, but the season is far from over.

Short term targets for me.
They are certainly entertaining but I want to get to that next 3 wins as quickly as possible to get to 20 points with (depending on what other people do) a reasonably confident top 8 hold. If we hit a few close loses and we are having to battle for that last place at the end of the year, it could knock confidence and suddenly as Bren says, the M8s look scary and the crowd will turn.
On the other hand if we win the next couple and we secure a top eight spot early, we can start recruiting properly, and can play with the entertainer tag through the 8s and frighten some of those "big clubs" above us.

With Leeds, Hudds and Salford all cut adrift (though could still mount a charge) there is still that 9th spot very open. Even though KR have it now, we along with Cas and Widnes are pretty close to it.

After Catalan we have
Salford away
Hull KR home
Giants away
Leeds home

We could (in theory) have sewn up top 8 by then.

But if not the next 4 are tough
Sts home
Wigan away
Catalan away
Cas home

Reckon three home wins, one away win and a plucky draw would be enough.
Would hope we could win our remaining home games though.
