| Would be a good signing at the right price. Are we within the quota signing another Aussie?
Any truth though in the rumour..

There were a lot of signings suggested by lots of people six months ago.
I suggested that Todd Carney would probably sign for Les Cats, like Greg Bird did.
One is bound to stick.
But would be a good signing if true!

If I was short sighted I could become a referee!: |
|
| According to newspaper reports McDonnell was one of the top 5 earners when at Hull FC and left after an argument about money he said he was promised . Cannot see him putting up with the wages we can afford. Also he has had 3 clubs in 2 seasons. Think we should stay well clear. Let's concentrate on bringing on our own talented young fullback using Hall for most games and Jowett for selected games.

Nice idea but that's not the Wakefield way.

| I had this notion about fitting McDonnell within the quota, that he was a Scottish International?
It turns out, he has been named In the Ireland squad to play in the 2014 European Cup.
Unfortunately his past record of being asked to be released or getting released is better than Engelbert Humperdincks!

It was a bit more than that, I started a thread about his availability and possible financial benefit of signing him then.
Quote: FickleFingerOfFate "Is about to become a free agent after reaching a severance settlement with Hull FC, he was one of the most effective attacking fullbacks in SL during his Hull KR days and the early part of his FC stint.
Is he someone we should be looking at, his settlement might mean that he won't be expensive, he'll give our back line some pace and cutting edge, he could bridge the gap between Mathers leaving and Jowitt being 100% ready and if we don't sign him Bradford will!'"

| McDonnell would be a good signing 1 year deal most likely but I was sure in one of his stints at the Hull teams he had offers in the NRL but they wouldn't release him so looks like it must of fell through? If we do sign him he will be safe at the back for us and also has a bit of flair - who knows he may even like it here and stay on for another?
Unfortunately I don't think this will happen, as others have stated he was on a lot of cash at previous clubs 'reportedly' anyway.

| A lot of people on here a long time ago suggested Shannon McDonnell. I for one, am not too sure, but he is a specialist FB and his signing would strengthen the back line options.

The league is full of "Past it Aussies" - Overseas players that are way past there best? - Tim Smith, Dean Collis, Lauititi. They can still do a job and are still good enough for SL.
