Next up it's the visit of St Helens to BV.
From competing against two of the poorest teams in SL currently it's time to face arguably one of the best attacking sides in the competition.
This will be about our effort and desire in defence rather than out scoring the opposition knowing defensive mistakes can be covered up.
Walsh and Soliola may be missing (I'm sure I've read that somewhere) from the Saints line up with a bit of luck, and we seem to picking from an ever strengthening pot of players.
Hopefully this one will wet the appetite of the Wakefield public who this far have stayed away and I'm sure the saints fans will turn up in good number.
Get your tickets early as with this being a reduced capacity match, if you turn up on the day you might be disappointed.

This is a no lose game for me. No one expects us to do anything, so it's a great measure of how well we are coming together as a team.
From what I've seen Sts are the best at the moment and we will need to be at our best to have a chance.
Sts will be tested as well if Walsh really isn't playing. He has been great for them so far so it'll show how much they have come on too.

Nothing to loose game and will show how we are going and if its like normal Wakey/Saints it will be a good one.

Got to stop Amor and Walmsley from getting them on the front foot with a quick play the ball and releasing their three quarters to run at a broken defence.

If we do that and drag them into an arm wrestle we have some X factor players in Tautai, Laitiiti, Godinet and Sammut who can conjure up points.

Should be a very interesting game. 2 very attacking sides.

I expect a real try fest!

Personally I don't think we actually want an arm wrestle. I think we need to reverse what Sts do exactly.
Quick lay the balls and fast attack.

I think our strength lies in the middle both in attack but especially in defence, the last thing we want is a fast open game because we'd get mullered out wide

I'm sorry, but this is a real pet peeve of mine this year. It's basically saying, if we score more points than saints do then we might win. (And every team we've played so far has started by saying "if we stop Amor and walmsley ..."icon_wink.gif
Also, saints don't have x-factor players to pull points out of nowhere?

I'm not concerned with pandering to Sts fans, I was talking about what I think WAKEFIELDS best chance of winning is.
If you look at my reply to Pop Tart you'll see that I'm not dismissing Sts other players

Indeed, and in both cases, the X factor players are hard to stop. We both agree on that, so a better way is to stop the go forward so the X factor players are starting in their own half.
It's not like Sts are so gifted that they can pass the ball to the wings on first tackle and score every time.
They build through the likes of Amor, same as everybody else, it's just your go forward and speed of transition is better than most (if not all)
So The Avenger and I are saying we need to start at the beginning and stop the go forward. We only have different opinions of whether we keep the ball there in attack or go wider (and it's only a small differece at that as clearly both are needed).

They are more down the middle than Saints teams of old, i'd argue we might be more like the old Saints than this Saints team is.

And this is where my frustration lies. The likes of Amor and walmsley only see the ball on the third/ fourth tackle. The quality of our set is dependant on swift makinson and lomax who will more often then not be the first second and third runners. They all seem to have the wonderful knack of beating the first man, getting down and playing the ball quickly, so by the time Amor and walmsley enter the set, defence is at 6s and 7s already. To stop Amor/ walmsley at that point would just see us ship the ball wide again (even in our own half) where there will be an overlap due to numbering up on our big guys). See the Amor try against Salford and you'll see this.

To beat saints, you need an impeccable kicking game (something we've not really faced yet) kick chase from every single member of the team (makinson and swift like to probe for weakness' throughout the match - see makinsons try against Catalans) and catch us sleeping, as we have already been caught several times this season.

Like people are saying no one expects us to win so just play are own game and see we're that takes us.

Our own game should be different for every team.

Then it's not are own game is it? We would be changing are game to try stop there's instead of playing are game and let teams worry about us
