Good news!
www.wakefieldwildcats.co.uk/2011/06/cro ... -the-cats/
But and there is always a but .... what does this paragraph mean?
'Near on 8,000 supporters turned up to watch the Wildcats against Hull FC on Sunday, a figure nearly double the same fixture in the previous year. The club were a massive 47% up on attendance at the same game last season, with a crowd that nearly filled the stadium.'
If the figure was nearly double that of last year, then I would expect the increase to be nearer 100%

| it's impressive for sure (the increase in attendance not the maths surrounding it on the website). what is key for us and perhaps differentiates us from the likes of crusaders/harlequins/huddersfield etc is how many of our people are paying in, and how many are on freebies.

| Almost all of our attendances pay in whereas it is obvious the that the same cannot be said for Crusaders and Quins.
It is good to see out attendances are on the up in the current financial climate lets hope we can keep it up for the rest of the season and hopefully we will be allowed to continue to grow next year.

| My favourite from work this one.
When explaining gross profit, a doubling of profit is only 50% not as you would think 100%.
if you start off with £1 and add on 50% GP you come up with £2, however if you were starting off with £1 and you were adding on vat if that were 50% (it probably will be soon!) you would only have £1.50.
I have asked for an answer to this conundrum for about twenty years and I have never once got an acceptable answer!!!!

There is a bit of a myth that RL clubs give lower attendances to avoid tax. This may have happened years ago but not these days I suspect.
The clubs are not obliged to give out the paying attendance in fact they don't have to publish the figure at all. However in general they do and the attendance figure they give is usually as far as I understand the actual number of people admitted into the stadium a figure required by Health and Safety whilst the paying figure is given to the tax man.
I suspect the figure we see include everyone attending the game, even players although I'm guessing the club doesn't go as far as including paid members of staff - nothing wrong with it as all clubs do it but you can't work out a paying figure for it.

FWIW a before the club get it again, the maths when talking about gross profit are correct.

for whatever reason i think you've missed my point. my point was a dig at the likes of those clubs that report a big increase in attendance when they've dished out 5000 tickets for nowt.
if anything i think there's a real temptation to inflate attendances these days to suit silly franchaise applications.

| I think the inclusion of season ticket holders whether they are their or not, a criticism of the some of the bulls attendences, has muddied the waters a bit.

I can answer this for you.
Gross profit is like margins. A 50% margin means 50% of the total price is profit. eg you pay £1 for something and sell it for £2. Therfore 50% of the selling price is profit.
Also you cannot sell something at 100% margin unless you paid nothing for it. As all of the sale price needs to be profit.
To work out margins or gross profit you use the following calculations.
50% margin divide cost price by 0.5
60% margin divide cost price by 0.4
70% margin divide cost price by 0.3 and so on.
Profit percentage is different as if you pay £1 for something and sell it at 50% profit percentage you sell it at £1.50.
Hope this helps.

No problem. I'm glad my limited knowledge is useful to somebody.

Just imagine what will happpen when we have our new stadium and a competetive team.
