I did actualy write what I thought they ought to do when they catch the scrote involved but on reflection it's not suitable to air on a public forum.

| ** IMPORTANT **
At lunchtime yesterday (18th June) A six-year-old boy was knocked down and killed by a hit and run driver in Kettlethorpe, Wakefield. Does anyone know of someone who has recently damaged their car? it's thought to be a grey or light-coloured hatchback. Can't imagine what the familys going through

| Gutted for the boy's family, my lad got knocked down a few years back in Lupset and the driver sped off. Fortunately he had that many layers of clothes on he bounced off the bumper.
Hope they catch the scum and give him more than 5 years.

| This happened 100 yards away from my house yesterday. It is important that anyone who has any information comes forward so that the driver can be caught and brought to justice.

| I saw a kid run out into the road a week or so ago... right at the side of a car.. how the two did not collide I still do not know... there would have been nothing that the driver could have done to prevent the accident... however and more importantly I was driving on the other side of the road and towards the incident and saw the face of the young man at the wheel, he was white with shock, and did not stop, to be honest he looked short of any normal mental capacity... thinking back I am not sure he would/ could have stopped if he had hit the kid... just because the driver did not stop does not mean that it was not an accident.
please do not judge the situation until the full facts come out... my own son would have beed dead but fror the lightning reactions of a woman driver in North Yorkshire... it was totally his fault.
to talk of serving judgment at this stage is premature.

I can. Some people just panic doesn't make them evil just weak. Others are just selfish scum. That thankfully is for the Police and the Courts to decide.
My own personal belief is to own up and face the music straight away no matter how bad it is because if you don't it will only get worse. However that's easy to say when it's not you. If however you are a half decent person your life is ruined even if you don't own up, you'd never forget that image as long as you lived. Calling people low life and scum is a bit premature and helps no one.
What I don't know is if there is a huge difference in the eyes of the law between killing someone through dangerous driving and hit and run. For me there should be at least double the penalty for the latter if there are no mitigating circumstances, but knowing the stupid way the law works there probably isn't.
Either way it won't bring the boy back which is the real shame.

| The reasons for a rush to judgement are all around us but more so if you live on the streets and avenues of housing estates.
Outside my house there are speed bumps every 30 feet or so, when I go over them I think they're too high, however that doesn't stop the scrotes in their customised monstrosities from racing down the road at 50/60 mph.
On the odd occasion they stop I've had words but there's no chance anything you say will make a difference to their behaviour, they just sneer and smirk and do their best Ali G impersonation then no doubt tell their mates that they were going to knock me out if I'd said another word.
I stand by my first post because I wont be surprised when they catch this person to hear that they fit the description above.
Even if they don't, after three days have elapsed since the incident, any decent person with a conscience would have come forward.

Not questioning your judgement that's up to you.
I have an empathetic nature believe it or not!
When I was 17 just passed my test I was racing a mate. I was daft he was dafter and cut a corner, he missed hitting a mother and kiddy by inches - it was a miracle. We slowed, they were ok and got away ASAP. I often wonder what would have happened if he had hit them. I was culpable even though it wasn't me, I was immature and full of it at the same time - how would I or my mate have reacted. On balance I'm fairly sure we'd have done the right thing but it's hard even now to think about it.
I'm not defending them - you do it you pay the price that's life. However some people seem born with maturity and common sense, others have to learn as they go along and many of us just make it by the skin of our teeth and IMO that's far more than actually admit it.
There is something destructive in human nature that makes people defy logic. People on here are always on about getting hammered but even that act is an abdication of responsibility as being drunk diminishes your ability to do many other things safely than just drive a car. It baffles me mate, where does being human and fallible cross over into being selfish and irresponsible - you will get a million different answers to that.
Sorry to waffle I'm not after an argument over such a tragedy - but my sons 17 (can't drive yet) and he is typical, he knows it all - 10 years ago I'd have been worried about him being the victim now I'm worried he might be the cause yet he's a great kid and if he were it would destroy him. Being a decent person, jeez it never gets any easier

...Well said Spook....it is far too easy to pre-judge people when something like this happens......I have dealt with many an accident where a pedestrian/cyclist/skateboarder has been at fault rather than the driver (the last one being two weeks ago in very close proximity to where this happened). I am not saying that is definitely the case with this terrible incident, but it does happen...driver's are not always to blame !!!
However, in many cases they are, and where the evidence exists, i.e. witness testimonies, forensic evidence, etc, then if the driver has been dangerous/careless then this evidence will be passed on to the courts, who can then deal with them as they see fit, but until the full facts are known, too many people are keen to pre-judge and come to the wrong conclusion. Yes, the driver should have stopped (that goes without saying), but some drivers DO panic and drive off, which obviously exacerbates the situation, and makes people jump to the wrong conclusion. Whichever is the case, the best thing the driver can do is come forward and explain himself.
I too pass on my deepest sympathies to the family involved.
