1) Operating within our means to deliver opportunities for professional RL to and for the benefit of the community of Wakefield (irrespective of the level) OR
2) Playing in Super League without the capacity or likely future capacity to compete financially

For me the former should be at the core of what we do, the latter an aspiration where and if achievable.

Is super league the be all and end all? I think not. Growing up I never saw Trinity in the top fight but still developed my passion for the club and the sport. Plenty of outstanding clubs with simmilarly successful pasts to our own ply their trade in the lower leagues and we should not be too proud contemplate this ourselves. If we don't have the capacity to operate at SL level then so be it. Perhaps an opportunity to focus on the foundations of our club and its community in the lower leagues could be in the clubs long term best intetrests.

It is all too easy to get caught up in the issues of the hear and now. Making decisions in the short term intersts of the club could be harmful in the long term. I think we need to think about what will give citizens of Wakefield the best opportunity of following a professional RL club in their city in 30 years time that might be dropping down a league.

Unless there are significant things that have not been made public relating to future and credible income streams I can't see how the injection of half a million will make any difference in the medium term. Infact I fear it could lead to many loyal fans spening 1k now and not going to as many games asnd spending less in the shop - then becoming disallusioned - unless the new arrangements for constituting the club deliver a step change in all round performance ot WTWRLFC.

It just strikes me that it might be wiser to consider the longer term rather than short term fire fighting

Once again I can't get into the discussion on this because I am not a fan but the one thing I have said on two other threads is that a community stadium at Newmarket continues to be the best current hope either way for RL and any other professional or semi-professional sport in Wakefield.

As Newmarket remains viable as a NL1 RL venue then this needs to remain a focus and without it SL status would hard to come by in the next 5 years, if not longer.

Exactly, you're not a fan, so why put all this time and effort in?

I mean no offense as you have put a lot of work in. But whats the point? You've seen wakey's luck over the years, the new stadium probably isn't going to happen, we all know it really.

You are just coming across as desperate mate, you want this more than the REAL fans. I'll still come down Tuesday to show my support, but I can't see light at the end of the tunnel at moment icon_sad.gif

i don't see anything in my original post that impacts on the NM scheme. My view is that the super league status or otherwise of any prospective tennant of the stadium is unlikely to factor in the SOS's decision following PI

Absolutely; the NM scheme is, in many ways, irrelevant to the current issues.

rlThisrl looks like the future; anyone interested?

Thanks for your post and the answer is simple!

1) I live in Stanley, less than a mile from the site, I think both the wider development and the stadium are suitable for this site and important to this area and the whole of Wakefield, jobs, community sports facilities and the stadium. I will continue to support the development of this site irrespective, ok, it might not be quite as vigorous and having something to lose as a father and local person, the community sports facilities, is making me fight harder.

2) I earn my living (and always have earned my living) as a professional in construction industry. I am a Structural Engineer by profession and now earn my living within a specialised field of the timber industry within construction. Having worked on many of these sorts of scheme back in my Consulting Engineering days, it would be hypocritical or me not to be pro-development (if the site is indeed right!) in general and even more so on my doorstep... I am not a NIMBY!

Before you ask the likelihood of me and my company ever gaining financial from this scheme currently is slim, and only one small element of the project would be of interest to us (and not the part of the company I manage either) and that would be the hotel. Even then it would only be of interest if they were proposing to construct it using a timber frame solution, which is outside my influence or control.

3) I was angered by the approach of the main people driving the objection group, not them objecting, but the means they used and continue to use to solicit wider objection, made up emotive group names, hiding behind those groups to conceal your true reasons for objecting, half truths and lies (in my opinion of course, just for libel reasons!).

4) I have strong sense of civic and community duty, I am an ex President of Wakefield Junior Chamber (JCI Wakefield) and national President of British Junior Chamber (JCI UK) and every year I participate in many local charity events in an organizational capacity. I am also a school governor of a Wakefield Primary school.

5) I am an RL fan born in Wakefield but support another club for very legitimate historic reasons.

6) I have started so I intend to finish, so to speak! I have found myself getting in deeper as time as progressed and I have become ever more emotional invested in this process!

7) I have knowledge of the process and enjoying showing it (even when I am wrong!) icon_wink.gif

Finally, I had some very good news this morning and with any look I might be able to share it with you on Tuesday! icon_cool.gif

Is that enough reasons? I have a few more but thought that might be enough for now!

See you on Tuesday! icon_biggrin.gif

Sorry owiepob, I was not having a pop at you and maybe my post was badly worded.

You are totally correct above BTW... but fighting for the stadium and the club are still both important!
