| Just watched our last few games and kept a big eye on Jowitt in particular.
For all those touchline coaches and yes I’m just as bad at times his progress shows how little we know. There is not one poster on here who imo has an ounce of credibility compared to Hester and his team. I know they think hey do but they are clueless, the fact that they don’t train the players tells you that.
Jowitt had a hard time last year getting a place and rightly so because he had a glaring weakness in a key part of his game imo and I have to assume Chester’s.
Max was forced to go back and up his game and so fat it appears he has, he seems to be a far better player than he was imo. I’m a solutely certain this is because he was forced to improve or fall by the wayside.
Imho it does most players no harm whatsoever to have some dissapointments early in there career it’s what makes most of us grow up not just sportsman - nor has he been picked on as even Trinity poster boy TJ has taken a few slap downs this season.
I know it’s frustrating and I know with local lads there is a lot of vested (in a good way) interest in them getting on. However shirts should be earned and being a home town boy should make no difference. Coaches can’t work on emotion so well done CC.
Next time CC makes a selection that goes against public opinion just remember that he actually knows these guys and thus is the only person qualified to judge. Opinions are fine but that’s all they are, none have any real validity despite what some seem to think.
No coach gets it right all the but CC seems to do Ok - we are lucky to have him.

| Get what your saying but what got me and what I would imagine Jowitt found frustrating is that Grix, despite having a few shockers himself at the time, automatically usurped the full back position from Jowitt following the later having a decent game.
He has his opportunity now and I hope he grabs it. I hope Grix also has to 'earn' the shirt back. As you say it might help him cut out the number of brainfarts a seasoned professional player shouldn't be making.
Regardless Grix will shortly be the past, Jowitt (and Hooley I suppose) will be the future and he has a much higher ceiling than Grix. Hopefully Trinity can hang onto to him to see if he can fulfil the potential he has shown.

How do you know that for certain?

| Tbf Wollo has taken some stick for defending Max on here, and should be pleased his faith in him is showing through.

| With all due respect to the op, Jowitt has only got his chance due to Grix being injured.
So, do we say great coaching or lucky Max ?
If Grix had still been fit and playing well, Jowitt would probably still be watching from the stands.
It's a great problem for the club to have, with an excellent youngster ready to take his chance.
However, it's just possible that ,given the #1 jersey at the start of the season, he would possibly be even better ??
He has made some cracking 1 on 1 tackles this time and he does look that bit stronger, compared to last season.
The big problem will come when Grix is fit again !

| To suggest that Chris Chester is more knowledgeable about Rugby League than I am is just absurd.

Or even being allowed to hold onto the #1 shirt at the start of the previous season?
This is my beef about side-lining an outstanding youngster, which we effectively did once Grix came crawling back.
It's all conjecture now anyway.

Or do we just accept that team sport works that way?
Prime example - would the illustrious Sam Tomkins be a RL superstar now, if he hadn't been forced to join the 1st team due to an injury to Thomas Leuluai?

You really are hugely vindictive at times.
He was sidelined as you put it because the flaws in his game towards the end of 2016 were obvious to all - he simply wasn't ready. The idea that somehow he'd have improved if left in place in 2017 is absurd. Yeah he may have gotten better but to suggest he'd have given us the season Grix did doesn't hold up to scrutiny. I suggest a full season at F/B would have destroyed his confidence and scuppered his future career. He got his chances in 2017 and was pretty much awful in every game, how is that Grix or Chesters fault!
As for Grix coming "crawling back" - seriously man is he the first player ever to leave a club and then come back.
Jowitt broke through as a 20 year old into a technically difficult position, one which he hadn't mastered - he needed the time to grow his game and Chester gave it him and has been very quick to reward the player for doing so - what more do you want?
Chester has been utterly vindicated regarding Max but then he sees him day in and day out so he would wouldn't he, and he knows the lad well which is more than you or I do.
You were wrong he was right, to me it's that simple.

Indeed.
History is littered with players in all sports getting a break or, making the most of a "freak" opportunity.
However, Jowitt has had to be extremely patient this season and credit to him for not throwing his teddy out of the pram.
Now that he is getting a decent run in the side, I really hope that he goes from strength to strength and if we managed to find a spot for Crowther, even better.
These two, were absolutely busting a gut in pre season and both seemed to deserve a break. ?/

It was an Injury to Tim Smith that gave ST his chance in the Wigan first team and to answer your question IMO yes he would, Sam only needed 80 minutes of first team rugby to prove how fantastic of a talent he was and only got better with a few games under his belt.
Chances will inevitably come for the `next in line` one way or another, it is how they take them that counts.

| I'm just happy in the knowledge that MJ is playing well, and even though I'm a fan of Grix, there would be no automatic return for him at the expense of MJ.
I get what OP is saying but this site just about our opinions surely!
