I think that the main reason why we lost to Hudds was that we just lack that class player who can break down a defense, the difference between the two sides was Danny Brough. He passing game, guile, timing of the pass, opened us up several times. His passing puts payers in a gap. We do not have this type of player ; a Danny Brough, Greg Bird, Myler, Roberts, Gale, Chase. We had plenty of field position, plenty of ball but to be honest we never looked like creating a try. We do not have a player with the skill set, why not ; because they are very expensive to employ and Tim Smith has gone.
Credit to Lyne who made a try with a slipped ball to BJB.
Maybe Williams has got more to game than we have seen but he does not look like a play maker, I like his long kicking game, I look forward to seeing what else he has got.
Wood has impressed me but he is not a play maker, Miller has got good feet and speed but unless we are running a set move he cannot create from a pass, he is an honest player who gives his all. Finn has got a passing game he is our most creative player he also from what I have seen this season is the only player organizing and leading , maybe he should defend at 9 and attack at 6 or 7.
With the lack of creativity with the ball in hand, that surely our coaches are aware of we have to have a better attacking kicking game, we have kicked the ball on the 6th tackle at least 20 times this season in the air to either defending winger , not one try created, try something else. We must always take two points when on offer, no questions : always take the two. The decision to run the ball against Hudds was pathetic and started their comeback. Tupou should not play in the , he simply cannot pass. We have good wing options and with our restricted attacking options we need to give our wingers a chance every so often. I like Tupou but is simply noy a centre
I think apart from the first 10 minutes against Hudds our defense has looked good . Credit to the Hudds coach he picked on Miller on our left side and it worked. You could also see Finn trying to get Grix in the correct position on goal line defense but for some reason Grix was in a world of his own.
So far our defense and long kicking game has improved on last season, the effort seems to be there, as usual with Wakefield players its the Rugby smartness that is lacking.
Notes to coaching staff : Huby is our best prop play him at prop, always take the two, work out a system for Finn to play in a wider role when we have the ball, Kirmond should not play for 80 minutes.

Some good points there Belly.
On Friday whoever had played left centre would not have got the ball to Johnstone. Bill made good ground on occasions, but there just wasn't the opportunity to get Tom away, as he was well covered.

In my mind the game was lost in defence and error more than our less than effective attack.

Apart from the Brough inspired effort, from memory all their other tries were short range efforts. For some reason our try line defence was better against Hull.

Also, if we'd not kicked out on the full after the first try there is a strong possibility we would not have been 8 nil down so early on.

Would probably say that arguably Danny Brough has been the best all-round Super League player over the last 15 years.

I would say that his frequent temper tantrums are in the way of that title.

Why would that come as a surprise? Miller has never created anything, he's not that type of player. Finn can create but his dramatic loss of pace since the back end of last season nullifies everything he does and Williams is our best hope but still trying to settle in and find a way to work with Miller, something nobody else has managed.

It's just what it is. We have to work harder than other teams because generally they are smarter. We have to stick to proven principles of strong defence, no mistakes with the ball and a good kicking game and then use our best asset of extreme pace wherever possible.

Just look at other clubs to see where we are. Our half backs don't get into the to 25 in Superleague so life is always going to be a challenge until we can unearth another diamond or or find a workable combination.

Missed an opportunity to sign Tom Schofield who was on Cas books and not offered an under 19`s contract. Unusually for Cas they have made a major error. We should have signed him he will be a quality half back, creative, tough, fast, quality goal kicker and kicker from hand. We could and should have picked him up, a real star player in the making. Sadly he is now at Leeds and ripping it up in their under 19`s. I know assessing a young player is subjective but anybody could see that Tom has what it takes, bags of natural talent and a desire to succeed.

How can you say that nobody has managed to work with Miller ?
He and Finn were flying during our unbeaten run last season and not too many were complaining about either of them at that point.

You are right though about Miller and Williams needing time to learn how each other plays.

We have a stronger pack this season and our defence appears to have improved significantly and there is still reason to be optimistic for the season once we start to register a couple of "W's".

Yeah I'm not too worried yet. Both games could have gone either way with a bit more luck or moment of skill.

We got 3 games against fellow middle 8 battlers coming up in Salford, Leigh and Leeds - plus obviously away at Saints on Friday.

I reckon if we can beat Leigh and Salford at home and pick up a result at either Leeds or Saints we'll be back on track.

Looks to me like we are gelling and not quite ticking yet - we've got into some great positions and just fluffed our lines.

In terms of creativity our half back incumbents over the past couple of years are light years behind Rooney & Jeffries.

early days, so far we havent seen a great deal of the williams miller combo but both can be class acts, although we didn't create a great deal in attack it was our mistakes and left hand defence that cost us dearly.

Also thought it was more good defence from huddersfield rather than our inability to break them down.

Was really impressed with Grix in defence but thought there were a couple times when he could have took a chance and let johnston have a run down the wing, reality is tupou and lynne generally aren't the most passing of players

work in progress

Lynne only drew in at least 3 players , sent out a back door pass that Gleeson would of been proud of, and put BJB in at the corner.
