| Going to be a really tough game away from home. I believe that Leigh’s defeat at Hull Kr was just a bad day at the office and that Hull Kr can do that to most on their day at the minute.
I really hope we cut out the silly mistakes and string a solid high completion 80 minutes together. Do that and I believe we will come home with the points.

| We need to get smarter. We have the quality ! Need Trueman back and Ollie back in the centre position. Our pack is a match for any in SL.

| Not many changes required from the Hull game for me, just tweaks.
Bring in Walmsley or M Russell to the wing. Pratt to left centre, Scott to stay at right centre. Trueman in for O Russell.
Limited to what we can do in the back row. It would be useful if Griffin and Croft could both do the full 80mins as we lost something when McMeeken went to second row.
It’s another winnable game if we play to our potential and cut out the errors.
Massively clutching at straws here but we still have not heard anything about Jowitt or Vagana injuries…could one or both of them be available?

| Squad announced. Can't seem to copy anything in.
Trueman and Vagana back.
Second row should be Croft and Vagana with Griffin on the bench for me.
Trueman in for Russell
Pratt in left centre as Hall not in squad. Walmsley on wing or M Russell

| Now the 21 has been released. Vagana returns is a boost.
I would make a few tweaks but not too many:
Roarke Russell Scott Pratt Johnstone Trueman Lino Mckmeeken Hood Atoni Vagana Croft/ Griffin Pitts
Smith Uele Rodwell Faatilli
Only tough choice was Croft/Griffin but we need more minutes from our second row. I would consider spelling Pitts there if needed with Rodwell or Mckmeeken going 13.
Lino just about keeps his place but he needs to have a good game with Trueman this week with no errors like kicking into touch.
That team looks strong and can certainly do the business. The forwards like KR will need to dominate down the middle vs Leigh.

| From Leigh point a view I feel this is a game wakey should be targeting, We are very light weight in the forward back so should play into the wildcats hands.
We struggled against both Hull clubs in the middle of the field with our injuries in the pack.

Looks like Leigh have their starting pack and Mulhesrn will be a boost. However I would hope Trinity can win the middle battle as we have almost every game this year so far.

| Could see vangana coming into the bench with Faatilli dropping out, vagana being able to either slot into SR or prop. All depends on how Croft is and if he's injured, not seen any updates on this?
As people have mentioned we lost a lot from McMeeken when he went to SR.
Charnley and Mulhern back into the squad for Leigh, was hoping both wasn't!

| In the pack there is only one prop position and one SR decision to make. The rest picks itself
McMeekan Hood Hamlin-Uele Croft Vagana Pitts
All are fixed to me.
Assuming Smith on the bench again.
Atoni gets better each game
Which leaves tge last prop between Rodwell and Faatili. Different styles. Depends what we think we need.
And Griffin or tge other prop on the bench. I'd probably go Griffin as McM plays 80 anyway.

On what basis does Lino just about keeps his place ?, he's had a good game every time he's played with Trueman, he made one error with ONE kick and has been slaughtered for it and on the other hand Trueman's stand in hardly set the game alight did he, had even a bit of luck gone our way you'd have to be looking to find something else to have a side swipe at Lino, and fwiw please give me some indication where no other player has not made any errors, thanks in anticipation.

| Ugh this site is a joke.
Halfway through a reply to a post about Lino and it refreshes and my reply disappears and now I can’t find the original message from the poster.
Its been weeks now and I seriously hope the list of issues is being worked through because having used this for a couple of decades or so I’m actually thinking of washing my hands of it right now.

Lino has made the same mistake twice at similar times against KR and FC on kicking it out on the full and losing the pressure at a very important part of the game. I genuinely don’t mind Lino at all, he’s a savage in defence and it’s nice to see him playing alongside a decent 6 in Truman and hopefully forging a decent partnership, if they play consistently together. For me and I’ve said this in another thread, does Lino make us a very good top 6 team in arguably the most pivotal position on the field, I’m not sure. Would he make it into any other of the top 6 teams at 7, in my opinion no. He’s by far the best 7 at the club and from what I’ve seen Oli Russell can’t tie his shoe laces. Like other players in the team, I hope the mistakes are knocked on the head and we can win a lot more than we lose.

You really took the Lino comment and run a marathon with it didn’t you. It’s my opinion, you don’t need to share it. I think you’ll find I have early season praised Lino for going better than I expected. Nobody has said he doesn’t go well with Truman. As for having a good game every one he’s played. IMO he was better first few games but last few he’s not been as effective, especially in last tackle plays. That kick out on the full vs Hull was at a key time and costly. Second time I think this season. I am not saying he is playing bad, I even still have him the nod in the team did I not? What I am pondering is if Russell could offer more given the opportunity with Truman. The last tackle plays especially have not been up to scratch imho. All 3 need to take accountability. I get Lino has his fan club but for me he started very well but I think he’s been less effective last few games and I would like to see more from him. I felt the last 2 games especially vs Hudds and Hull the way we have finished sets hasn’t been good enough. The answer may or may not lay with Lino. I’m not sure at this point in time. And no I wouldn’t just randomly have a swipe at Lino. Why would I bother going on about other players making errors when that’s not the only reason for my thinking as stated above. Not sure why the big reaction. I still put him in the line up I’d like to see this weekend.

Exactly that, you've just pointed out the point I was making, not really a fair question imo asking which other clubs' he would make it into at this stage of the season, he's made two kicking errors in two intense games and as he's the go to kicker he'll probably make more errors when put under pressure, hopefully nobody else in the makes any mistakes and criticised by far more critical posters than your good self.

| We’ll see come the end of the year whether Powell and Mills see him as a 7 who will be part of the plans going ahead with our ambitions of top 6. He’s only 31, so got plenty of good Rugby in him. This year is the first year in SL he’s had a quality 6 at the side of him behind a dominant pack. For me he didn’t tear up trees in the championship. I hope he absolutely tears up SL, we finish in the 6 etc etc.
At the end of the day, he’s in a very pivotal position, he’ll earn good money for doing so as 7’s are usually the highest paid players in world Rugby, if he mucks up he’ll gain more criticism than say a winger for knocking on. I like to think I’m very fair and try to give a balanced view. They’re only human and make mistakes, you’d have to be a pillock to not realise that, but I hope as a team collectively we cut out the mistakes, do that and I genuinely don’t fear us playing any team.

There you go, sums it up perfectly for me which was my point in the first place, you mention in your post that you hope the other players cut out their mistakes then I hope you view their mistakes in the same light as Lino's then just maybe we wont both be judged as pillocks.

If that's a dig at me then I should point out I'm a fan of every player at the club and not any one individual if that's ok.
Not sure why the big reaction. I still put him in the line up I’d like to see this weekend.
No big reaction from me, it would seem though that with the rant you have just come out with you either think I'm stalking you or I have touched a nerve which believe me I'm not, failing that, sorry if that's the case as it was not intended.

| I'm fine with Lino. He makes less mistakes than most and does a heck of a lot that is good.
And he's better with Trueman.

Why did Croft go off, did he pick up a knock or was it tactical as he was taken off after the Ese Ese try if my memory is correct?

| So no Trueman again but it sounds like he was always going to be 50/50 anyway, Atoni and Croft also missing but Vagana is back...hopefully a strong enough team to bring home the 2 points but Oli Russell needs to step up !!

They don’t seem to have Mulhern or Charnley back. Nice to see Russell back on the wing and Pratt to centre. Need an 80 minutes high completion and good composure to come away with summat here.

| Lino missed a kick hope he does not get too much stick for that ,Great to see Tom go in from long range ,the way he took the ball for is second try was out standing .Have we got the best pack in Super League, beginning to think so ..Thought Russell at 7 did ok .in fact a great team effort .Just getting fed up with absence of Trueman signed as a marque player .Came with a bad record for missing games .Or am I expecting to much

| Don't think you're expecting too much re Trueman Legend, some players seem to be able to run niggling injuries off and some don't. Jake seems to be in the latter category.

Your ability to be wrong never waivers. Trueman was never a marquee signing, you’ve completely misunderstood the idea. His injury record was well known and his wage will reflect that. What makes me laugh is the sheer misconception of where we were when we signed him. Contrary to popular belief players were not lining up to join a newly promoted club with a history of under achieving. It all looks very different 6 games in but at the time we signed Trueman we were not that attractive. Getting him, even with his injury history was a coup but also a risk but one we had to take at the time to build up the squad.

| Thought the final score line wasn’t a reflection of how tough and competitive the game was, amazes me how a game can certainly blowout in the end. Brilliant result non the less. They really targeted our left edge in that first half to good success, though 2 individual pieces of brilliance by Johnstone certainly shifted the balance of the game in our favour I felt.
Behind a dominant pack, Hood is playing like a top 3 SL hooker. His defence is strong and robust and his RL IQ is so high, he can really create chances and loves a try too. If his form continues like this, keeps injury free and looks to want to continue next year, you’d be happy to see him go around again, his presence and personality is clearly massive in the team. Same goes for Pitts.
Thought our halves were a lot better this week after obviously combining more through the week as a pair. Lino’s kicking game was great, played the conditions really well, in comparison to lam who was error prone and set up Johnstone for more tries than his own team! Leigh’s completion rate was diabolical.
Only thing I’ll say about McMeeken is I can’t wait to see him come the end of the season against the Aussies in all 3 tests. I genuinely wouldn’t swap him for anyone in SL, it’s like having a cheat code having play 80 mins week in week out, though I think he did 60 mins last night.

| I’d agree regarding the score line flattering us as for long periods the game was very much an arm wrestle. We deserved to be 12 up as they were terrible to start however that second 20 they targeted Oli Russell in defence and we were in trouble however we didn’t panic we shored up the issue and fully deserved the win.
MM is a player we are rebuilding this club around and he is thriving on being that player. We have had talisman type players before like Big Dave but I don’t think he contributed in the same way as MM has done so far, he looks to be driving standards across the board where as DF was more inspiring by coming up with an individual bit of brilliance.
Pitts, Uele, Hood, TJ all excellent too, in what was a very good team performance.
I don’t think we can read too much into yesterday regards next week as I don’t think it was as big of a thumping performance wise as the score reflected but full credit to the boys yesterday and if we play to the same level of performance week we will be there or there abouts.
Their main level of threat came when they started rotating their bench on and I think that is one area we need to be better next week.
A cracking night overall though looking forward to Friday!

Very positive after last night ,just shows how good we can be with some 50/50 calls going our way .Ok the score flatter us ,but we were far the better team ,apart from 15 minutes in the first half . Just pass one comment on a player that was not playing last night ,and got to put tin hat on .Question is how can you drop anybody after last night's performance .80 plus completion rate and 9 penalties against that is why we looked so good

Yes, absolutely agree in regards to Fifita, he was exceptional for us and will be forever a legend as a talisman in turbulent times, but I feel McMeeken is a cut above in regards to setting and driving the standards to get to where we all envisage we can. I feel the majority of our tries came from broken play/ interceptions and not set shapes laid on by our halves so next week will literally feel like a fresh slate. It would be an amazing feat getting to a SF in our return to SL.

| Even though it was a big score defense won us that game in my opinion.Leigh really came back at us, as they have done all season successfully but we stood our ground and forced errors.
Just like Sts did to us we capitalised on every error.
Really good performance across the board
I agree it will have no bearing on the cup but we should go in with confidence.
And I agree about MM. I can't honestly think of a better more influential signing in a lot of years.

| The only reason for me that Russell loses his spot in the team is teams really target him in defence and to good effect. Powell stated in his post match interview that Russell has things in his game he needs to work on……. Same could be said about most I reckon.
Lino at 7 and Trueman at 6 defensively is more solid than Lino at 6 and Russell at 7 in my opinion. I have been critical of Lino in attack at times but his defensive is really good, he’s a nasty little sod which I love about him. Either way it’s a lovely position to be in and given that Russell scored 2 tries and managed to tough out their relentless attacking pressure on his edge gives Russell the nod for next week.

| Got to remember Russell is currently our back up halfback.
Not many squads in SL can boast a better backup half than him.

Do you think Powell gave Russell the 7 shirt to give Lino the fire to demand he is the 7…… similar to Pratt not getting a starting centre number after having a break out year.

| We were good last night and deserved the win but the scoreline did blow out a bit on the back of 2 interceptions and that last minute try. Other than that the game turned on fine margins. They were millimetres from being in front at half time which would have made the 2nd half a different proposition.
In a refreshing change we were the beneficiaries of the VR referees whims and interpretations but on another day they can go against you and you find yourself chasing the game as the momentum switches to the opposition.
Finally, they’ve got a few players capable of making something from nothing and we need to be ready for a much more concerted effort from them in the Cup game.
There are 7 teams sitting above us in the League table and we’ve played 6 of them with the exception being Wigan. To have 6 points and be in the CC QF is a dream start given the daunting opening fixtures we got. Fantastic effort from everybody at the club, their feel good factor around the City is tangible!
