I always like the expression ‘can finish’ where a winger is concerned.
Call me old fashioned but o believe some things can be coached but some things can’t. Being a natural finisher comes top of the list for me.
I know the modern winger needs a full range of skills, but tackling, positional awareness and other things can be worked on in training, even pace.
The ability to score in almost any situation is a gift.
You only have to look at TJ. Sure he’s pretty quick but the majority of his tries were not down to his pace.
He just loved scoring, winger in RL are like strikers in football, they need to live for scoring tries, they need to want it. If he’s like that then brilliant.
One good thing about wingers is that it only takes a few first team games to know if they have the gift or if they are just steady like Kershaw, a player who is good enough in his own way. Most people knew straight away with TJ and Murphy.
Should be fun and in truth Trinity has been a wingers paradise in recent years, and we know Powell likes his wingers.
