Quote: Trojan Horse "Recent years we have seen more success with pace and speed in the backs. We seem to have gravitated back to the power style wingers/backs and while they make decent yardage they don’t offer much attacking strike from range or even support play on breaks.
We have been embarrassed with the likes of Johnstone and a bit further back BJB. Murphy also showed last year some good touches but he’s out for season which is a cruel blow.
Langi isn’t the fastest and Lyne has lost all his athleticism and pace and is more of a forward these days in centre.
We may not see a player like TJ at trinity for some time again. It’s such a shame he spent a fair amount of time on the sidelines.
I guess my point is when you’ve had a player like TJ on the wing and a breakout speedy young lad who had success last year it’s hard to not be disappointed with replacements for those.'"
Agreed. Although our style and quality of play hardly helps them I don’t think any of our current fit wingers are what you’d call natural finishers. They seem to lack that instinct that the better wingers have to sniff out a chance and its correct they are certainly not the quickest around. Even Kershaw that you mentioned as probably the quickest seems to have lost half a yard since his injury, although that could be due to what seems to me bulking himself up a little too much. Style wise he’s morphing into a modern day David Jones.
It speaks volumes that we are a third of the way through the season and none of our wingers have scored a try yet!
