Quote Trojan Horse="Trojan Horse"Recent years we have seen more success with pace and speed in the backs. We seem to have gravitated back to the power style wingers/backs and while they make decent yardage they don’t offer much attacking strike from range or even support play on breaks.
We have been embarrassed with the likes of Johnstone and a bit further back BJB. Murphy also showed last year some good touches but he’s out for season which is a cruel blow.
Langi isn’t the fastest and Lyne has lost all his athleticism and pace and is more of a forward these days in centre.
We may not see a player like TJ at trinity for some time again. It’s such a shame he spent a fair amount of time on the sidelines.
I guess my point is when you’ve had a player like TJ on the wing and a breakout speedy young lad who had success last year it’s hard to not be disappointed with replacements for those.'"
In Johnstone and then (briefly) with Murphy, we were blessed with 2 of the best wingers to ever pull on a Trinity jersey and with us not having had the best squad over the past few years, these guys could win a game on their own, scoring some wonderful tries from nothing.
With Murphy injured and Hall gone, we have nobody apart from Kershaw, capable of going the length of the field. There is no substitute for pace and we simply dont have any in the squad.
If Dagger is injured, we should give young Butterworth a decent run at FB and give him chance to grow.
Yes, he made a couple of errors but, I recall Jowitt doing something similar on his debut at Saints and it didn't do him to much harm.
Using our own players seems massively preferable to taking ANYONE on a 2 week loan, something that must really annoy those in the reserves who get pushed down the queue. Surely this is why we have a squad ?
