The difference with Ryan from other past players is that he is a Wakefield lad, a Wakefield fan, his dad is a Wakefield fan, and known by many Wakefield fans, so his connection to the club is stronger than most past players. I know people have different views on his potential and abilities, but I think it's fair with Ryan for people to take an interest. A lot of people on the terraces of Belle Vue have a personal interest in seeing him do well.
From a playing perspective, I'll trust the club and coaches on knowing his value to them and the price they were willing to pay. That's a different issue. But then, there is Ryan, the Wakey lad. That's a different thing.

Interest/obsession fine line with this player.
Don’t buy your argument on this one.
There have been plenty of players in our past who fit that profile but don’t get the attention! Many of those had one on Hampshire in that at least we were their first club and they didn’t take Wigans money. I’ve no issue with that but you can’t have it both ways - he’s not a Wakey lad in playing terms, he started at Wigan and now he’s back there, that’s his home club not Wakefield, not imo anyway. Best of luck to him, nice lad, but I really don’t care unless he’s playing against us.

| On a similar note, that lad that used to play on the wing last season will wear #24 for Catalans

Hampshire aside , very interesting listening to BJB on his show opening up about his contract monies at the likes of leeds , Salford and wakey , and just how little McGuire was on when he was lifting the challenge cup trophy for the loiners , real eye opener .

Yeah, you would think that players at the top clubs are on big money but, it sometimes works the wrong way round.
Those at the bottom have to pay more to entice "top signings", probably due to the lack of security.

What some people I think forget, is that we are all working in line to the same salary cap, and these are audited on a month by month basis, so I don't think clubs overly outbid each other.
What I do recall from memory, from a conversation with the RFL when I was more involved with salary caps, is that it is the club that is sold, as much as anything, such as facilities, silverware prospects etc. One thing that Leeds did tend to do, was to look at incentives etc, to try and entice a player to stay longer, as a stable squad, investing in a good youth structure, gets, or used to get rewarded back into the salary cap

| According to BJB he was on around £40/50,000 per season at leeds pretty similar to mcguire but that obviously went up with the silverware they attained ,whilst senior was on over £100,000 at the same time ,whereas when BJB was at Salford he was on £130,000 . On a side note , interesting interview with Proctor who was offered a 3 year deal at Salford , but opted for us .
