If you look at other coaches, like Powell at Wire or Watson at Huddersfield, both struggled in their first 12 month's, especially Powell.
Chester went from have us finish 5th, 7th. 8th, 10th and 10th (hope I've got that right) and Poching seemed to be worth another season, unless of course it was some kind of player revolt or another intervention which turned this season around and the improvement was due to other people rather than Poching and Cummings ?'"
You’ve solved your own question. Chester got more time than Poching because Chester was a success in his first three seasons. Nobody wanted Chester out at that point.
Best will in the world, WP has not been great. He benefited from new coach syndrome in 2021. In 2022 he presided over three of our worst SL outings in the last ten years. Tha shambles against Cas at home, Salford away and the worst of the lot the capitulation at magic. Chester was not producing those results until his last season and even then they weren’t as bad.
Poching had a great deal of goodwill due to his past with the club but his coaching record doesn’t stand up for me and I’m on record for stating it.
I think we need to break all ties with the coaching set up of the last six years and be bold.
