Can you imagine if there were 10 teams and constant TV loop games between the likes of Wigan/saints Leeds. It’s bad enough now. I always thought the league was better with 14 teams in and no loop fixtures. Also, six again that was brought in for Covid needs to be dropped fast. I like the idea of it but as a spectator it’s terrible. It’s so inconsistently applied by officials it’s more frustrating. Catalans game a prime example. Trinity got penalised for holding down yet Catalans seemed to be allowed an eternity. There just seems to be no consistency in it.
I do believe though that moving to 14 teams would be correct. Though I would also reduce the championship and league 1 leagues to fewer teams to create a comp of higher quality.
Promotion to SL should happen next 2 seasons to raise to 14 and during that time no relegation should happen. Also once the SL reaches 14 that year should be a no promotion/relegation closed year to allow the 14 teams to build/promote youth and get ready for a highly competitive comp the following year when promotion/relegation is put back on the table.
Also academy should be compulsory and there should be some central funding ringfenced for each team that can only be used on academy to help grow that side of the game and bring more participation and quality to the league medium to long term.
Just a few things I’d like to see.
