Quote: Cokey "I'll get straight to the point, if I had Beaumont's money, I would snap up Murphy and Eseh straight away for Leigh because, they are our future English talented players.'"
Mate I don’t want to dampen your fire but there is so much wrong with that statement.
1: Wakefield are nowhere near so tight that they can’t afford to fight off Leigh or most other clubs to offer these two their first real SL deal.
2: We’ve been here before with Mr Beaumont. He’s not that rich for a start. But more importantly He has gambled everything on returning to SL before the drawbridge is raised. I don’t blame him but Leigh will enter SL in a terrible financial state. It wouldn’t surprise me if Leigh’s current squad breaks the SL cap.
Remember those players who got you promoted will all was full time deals, whilst you’ll have to shed two Aussies.
Trinity know they have some talent and this season and next will be the one where we transition that. We will lose some but do you really think we will let go of what we have worked so hard to create. No offence but especially not to fellow bottom feeders like ourselves.
I honestly don’t get Leigh fans and I’m not suggesting you are one of these. But every time you get promoted you seem to believe you will be up there with the elite and every time you crash and burn, learn for heavens sake.
It took us four year before we climbed off the bottom after promotion. It took Hudds even longer and they had serious money, ditto Salford and HKR. These are the clubs that finally established themselves. The others lasted a season.
If Leigh are to survive in SL you need to forget about money and big signings. You need to put together a tough no nonsense team that will battle for wins and hope you get the points. Magic signings won’t do it, whilst two wet behind the ears kids certainly won’t.
You’ll find the players you need in the championship or lurking on the fringes of genuinely big clubs like Wigan or Saints.
I agree that Murphy and Eseh may be the future but not at any other club than Trinity, where they can be developed.
Oddly you should look at. Leeds. They are possibly signing two players in Hooley and Ruan who would be ideal for a promoted club. Not too pricey, decent skills and a desire to prove themselves. There are loads of those about, we have a few of those.
Having said all that if we get relegated then it’s a free for all however I think we’d actually be owed a fee on those two. Then I don’t blame you, though tbh it wouldn’t be those two I’d be picking up from us.
