Quote: The Avenger "No he wasn’t,
For the first one TO have a 5 v 3 on the short side because WT haven’t numbered up correctly, Tanginoa has to front up the lead runner, from the position he’s in that’s his job.
Second one, we are overloaded with extra defenders to the left and then Jowitt tells Batch to go left, he goes left himself and then pulls Crowther to the left side of the PTB. The ball gets played, Pitts gets caught ball watching and ties into the acting half leaving a huge hole to his right where he should have pushed into from the inside.
For the third, TO gain have a 6v4 on a wide space to our right, Tanginoa covers the lead runner (that’s his job) then a wide ball gives them a 3 v 2 which the execute perfectly allowing the winger a walk in.
Not sure where you learnt your video analysis skills but their wide of the mark when surmising these three try’s'"
That’s how I saw it too Avenger!
I think Pitts needs a rest or a spell in the middle. I noticed against Wigan that he was all over the place positionally. He was making his one on one tackles and didn’t miss many but a few times he got caught on the outside or slid across too late leading to massive gaps and overlaps. I don’t think Kelepi is great defensively and often switches off but I think Pitts has been a big offender these past 2/3 weeks. Him and Lino were shocking defensively against Wigan and then added to that we had a Centre who hasn’t played at SL for a year or so plus a winger who made his debut.
I like Kyle Evans and given time I think he may go well. He got caught out a bit on Saturday but to be honest who wouldn’t at that level when you’ve only been playing league for 5/6 months. I felt like he committed too early at times especially for two of the tries. If he hung on and trusted the inside defenders I think Croft was sliding over to prevent Ashall-Bott meaning Evans could have just stuck to his winger.
I actually thought Miller was having one of his best games before half time came. I’m often critical of his kicking game as I feel his bombs are never deep enough to threaten the opposition as the wingers are challenging 10m out from the line. His tactical kicking is often to stick it down the FBs throat too. However, on Saturday his bombs were actually dropped just short of the try line and he looked to kick the ball into space. Unfortunately his kicking game is so hit and miss (often more misses than hits). His main asset in attack used to be his step, agility and pace but since his injury in 2019 he seems to have lost that.
We lack general leadership at the moment and that’s what scares me the most. We don’t have a Betham, JD, Morrison, Kirmond or Washbrook etc to rely on now to calm things down and inspire the troops. No Solomona/Ali like figure to create something out of nothing. It’s ok when Lyne, Hood, Fifita etc being vocal but are they saying the right things and inspiring anyone? To me that’s our biggest problem at the moment nobody seems to be able to take charge!
