| Exceptional talent. Had all the skills. Up there with the best I’ve seen and that’s in many, many years of involvement in the game.

| His asset was his weakness. He had that fire in his belly and able to take risks. However, it spilled over too often to make him reliable enough to play for England.
Last game at Wakefield during his first proper spell? Sent off at Hull KR. Beating Celtic Crusaders 50-0 and gets sent off for abusing a touch judge. Goes to a World Cup and gets sent home for boozing.
Great player but keeping his edge in check was his downfall, but it was his edge that made him great when it was in check.

| Will always be a hero at Hull for his drop goal against Leeds that proved decisive in the 2005 Cup final at Cardiff. Like many have said a flawed genius, but not many can be one without the other it seems and a truly great scrum half.

| Agree with all posts, just a point, I hope he never joins the " wear & tear, injuries it's your fault brigade " after retirement etc !
I have listened & spoke to many ex players who not only have ongoing injury & pains but to on to say they have no regrets &
Would do it all again having enjoyed their days + they blame no one, they knew the risks eg, from other players they knew !
However, New links are found eg, head injuries, & damaged nerves etc which can lead to certain cases of extreme deterioration.
That/those issues were not previously known ! ????
The way forward may be screening & insurance for end of playing days ????? Or the game may go to touch & pass ???

| Cracking player in his prime, an angry little so and so who bossed his pack around the park with a kicking game second to none. Shame we didn't get to see the best of him at BV.
Maybe his son will be a chip off the old block.
