Quote: Scarlet Pimpernell "I note that as per usual when a restructure is proposed the old question of licensing comes back. I see the Leigh’s coach prefers a three year license option, I wonder why. I don’t like the make up of those tasked to investigate the future of RL.
I would think that our saving grace is Castleford because their ground like ours is old whilst Salford are currently looking for a new site for next season. I wonder if ownership would be a factor, how many currently play in nice stadiums that they do not own and are forced to vacate when the principal owners need to prepare the surface.
It looks like another period of uncertainty ahead.'"
Agreed.
Remember the previous restructure that brought us the 3 x 8 system and how good that was for the game
The thing with making changes. By the time is comes to the vote, there is no alternative other than accept the new deal and
the real issue here is the drop in Sky monies and the bigger clubs wanting to "protect" their share, hence the likely drop to 10
clubs.
The new stadia with their plastic seats are great and there is no argument that our ground, together with Cas and Bradford (should they end up on the mix) are awful.
However, even if a magic wand is waved and we all end up in "new" stadia, it's hardly going to take RL in England to the next level. It wont add a single penny to the Sky deal (although we would no longer be penalised for playing in a poor quality ground).
The issues in RL run much deeper and the proposed change looks like doing more harm than good in the longer term.
