If we wait until the contract date to let him speak to any other club, any deal he does take, would be for the following season - we would not get a fee.
If he talks now, a deal may happen for next season and we will get a fee.
Alternatively, he finds terms he likes with another club and we can negotiate something better and he re-signs at Trinity.
He has to do what's best for himself and the club has to do what's best for them.
It's simply pragmatism.
