I think they made more metres when you look. These stats are a snapshot as I often say. Most clubs have a wide range of stats focusing on upto 50 different areas. Someone can rack up 50 tackles which looks ace but if 20 of those are an ineffective third man in rather than getting into the line to face the next carry then you are doing your team harm.
When we stretched them and spread the play we looked a better proposition. They score so many tries from kicks. Then again we scored a couple. Teams tend to have got that grubber kick down to a tee. Done right it's very hard to defend. Your defence has to turn, they are facing forwards and are already in flight. The inexperience of our edges against a team that exploit you through kicking was always going to be tough to deal with.
Overall it was a better performance, better attitude. Improved energy and kick pressure caused them problems.
On the Mac incident. I think in hindsight Pitts probably wished he hadn't of done it even though it's good he's sticking up for a team mate. It was a pivotal time. Yeh Mac is a grub and I'd love him to get some RL justice ala the old days but I'd love him at Trinity. If everyone was a choir boy we'd sure get bored. Every team needs a mongrel that gets under the skin to disrupt other players thought processes and concentration.
