| its not meant to be a doom and gloom as such, basically there's a few that seem to think its just a passing flu bug when its not at all, the program gave a massive insight into how it can get out of control and without adequate provisions to prevent the spread.
yes medicine is far superior in these days and hygiene too plus we aren't at an end of a war and food supplies then was sp but the population is far greater today and makes us in a position where we could if not controlled be in a similar figure to the death count
with the knowledge that we have had in the passed have we learned to isolate, I sat back in amazement hearing when it all kicked off that counties was allowing passengers just to walk off planes when they should of been isolated straight away for the 14 day period for the good of the country, this alone would of been a task in its self
I personally think they should of stay within their boundaries and rode it out
keep safe all

Interesting thing about the Spanish Flu is that it had nothing to do with Spain - the first known case was actually reported on a military base in Kansas; in light of Mr Trump's latest racist nonsense, perhaps it should be renamed the American Flu, with suitable reparations sought for the rest of the world?

| Some interesting facts coming out re the recent pandemics, the years they were/are active and how many unfortunate people passed away through them.
If we look at these - and they were all classed as "high risk" some higher than Covid-19.
2002 - 2003 - SARS, 770
2009 - 2010 - Swine Flu, 200,000
2012-PRESENT - MERS, 850
2014 - 2016 - Ebola, 11,300
2019 - PRESENT - Covid 19, 6,400
Also, it has been confirmed this morning that there have been no new cases in China for the first time since last November.

The wife and I went to the early shopping @ Sainsbury’s this morning for the pensioners only hour. What surprised me was, although we are constantly told the UK has an ageing population, I didn’t realise they all live in Wakefield, by the size of the queue.

I dont think that you can make any comparisons in numbers until this one has run its course.
Also the action being taken by most countries is massively more than anything that anyone has seen in peacetime.
Interesting numbers though, I hadn't realised that Swine Flu had been that deadly (in terms of numbers).
