When I watch games from the early 90’s on YouTube I’m staggered by the size of the shoulder pads and other bits of protection some players are wearing. I mean to the modern eye it looks like armour.
Players today don’t seem to wear anywhere near as much protection. Now we all know modern youth are soft
I once read that Wigan stopped their players using them. The arguement was that whilst it made the impact softer for their players, it also reduced it for the opponents they were tackling. I don’t know if this is why everyone else followed suit.
