Quote: Slugger McBatt "I think one of the problems this year has been the tightness of the league, so for a long time there wasn't an issue as we were always within touching distance of the top 5, with many players due back from injury. The same at the bottom, as within a couple of weeks we have gone from one win off the play-offs to two losses off the bottom.
Saturday cost us the play-offs in reality. Although we have the same gap between the play-off spot and the bottom, we are playing like a side in a relegation battle. Two wins will do us, I think, because that would require London and Rovers to each win five of their last eight games, which is unlikely. BUT, we could do without having to win the final game.
I don't think it's a Chester thing. I think it's a player thing, and they lost some of their fight, perhaps because we were always so near the top. Perhaps Saturday was just a focus thing, because it was clear from their instagram stories that they spend two days doing the full tourist sightseeing. What is apparent that none of the players have posted an instagram story since Saturday, so hopefully there's a renewed focus.'"
Your last paragraph demonstrates exactly why it’s a Chester thing. Lost their fight? It’s down to the coach. No focus? It’s down to the coach. I’ve said before that I like Chester and think he’s done a brilliant job for us but we’re in a hole at the moment and it’s up to the coach to get us out of it. If players have lost their fight or aren’t focused he needs to deal with that.
