Quote: Shifty Cat "As the previous poster mentioned he's just come back from a second surgery & not long since started training properly - I watched a video maybe a couple of weeks ago and he'd only just started running, so it's no surprise he's not fully fit, or even as fit as the others at this stage.
Personally, I don't really agree with vasty about Dave, I didn't think he looked as fit as he normally does and as I mentioned above it's no surprise. Generally for a guy his size or for a prop, in general, I don't have any issues with his fitness. Otherwise, he wouldn't make the meters per season he has done and played in the number of games he has. I also think a lack of fitness would really show up in missed tackles, where if I'm not wrong he's got one of the best tackle percentages in the team. He does as many minutes as any of our props and as we've seen at times can do longer when needed. ATEOTD though how fit can a 6 ft 5, 120kg+ player truly get, the only way would be to lose size but then would he be the same player and have the same impact.'"
I have to agree. For his size I think he does more minutes than most.
A good sign of fitness is that he never makes mistakes. He takes the ball in and bounces players around but unlike other blockbusting players he never missed a tackle. (I wrote that and then realised that is exactly what you said in the next sentence!)
He clearly isn't a tri-athlete but he isn't unfit.
