Quote: The Devil's Advocate "The interesting bit for me is -

"The council as the planning authority were duty bound to consider the application"

Maybe they were, but why did it have to be passed when -

"Subsequent to the approval of Yorkcourt’s Stadium proposal, a separate planning application was submitted by Yorkcourt Properties & Newcold Ltd for a cold food distribution warehouse within the Newmarket site."

Also, the bit about the Council's own planning lawyer giving advice, where is the correspondence on his advice?'"

The fact they've not even attempted to fabricate such evidence says it all. Creagh should be asking to see this. The council have shown their contmpt with regards to its rate payers having rejected the trust's requests to view this phantom legal advice, surely they can't deny a member of parliament.

Quote: Redscat "Yes Wakeytrin, it was me. I would do it myself, but I'm not well up enough on the whole Newmarket subject as some others on this forum, and could not put the message across quite as succinctly as those. Sandal cat, How are you fixed???'"

It was also me - but like you, I'm not sufficiently up to speed on all the comings and goings to be able to summarise it in a way that might pique their interest.

If whatever is coming next relies on public support - I don't hold out much hope; the majority of the Wakefield public don't give a shiny $h1t about WT - and will see priorities on their own doorstep for public spending that will far outweigh any concern they have for what is widely talked about as a new stadium for a privately owned sports club.

Although I agree, it will be hard to get any serious public support about a Stadium. If it came to getting any Public support we need to get the conversation around the whole planned Newmarket Community Sports development that were promised and not just the stadium, we probably would have more support. Plus the issues around obesity in the area & the benefits that this development would bring to the Community in that regard, plus the link up with Wakefield College. We could also focus on the fact we've got the worst sporting facilities of any City in the Country and apart from a a new Sun Lane being built, there's been nothing new built in the City for over a couple of decades.

You could be right Bren, but surely the Newmarket project wasn't to provide a new stadium for a privately owned sports club, but a COMMUNITY STADIUM FOR A CITY OF 330,000 CITIZENS (the 20th largest local authority in the country). If the same amount of interest could be generated as for the town hall protests a few years ago it could be very worthwhile.

It would be nice to get something out of this but how do you get blood out of a stone I would suggest Yorkcourt as it was don't have the amount of money needed to hand to cover the cost of a stadium and would go into liquidation if a court case came about and they were ordered to build a stadium. Those owed money would be served first and our chance of a stadium would be zilch as they don't owe us money. Just my take on it as the capital they have wont build a stadium.

Surely the value of "Newmarket" is in the land that planning permission was granted and as such, whoever eventually holds the land (even if Yorkcourt pass it on, for whatever reason) would still be "liable" for the community facilities ?

Just a quick question for those in the know.
Did Yorkcourt benefit from the White Box being built or, was this done by a different developer ?
