| Quote TheRealist="TheRealist"I honestly beleive that these kids have left the WTW Academy because they were 'sold short' by the hierarchy and advised 'not to get an agent'. What is the problem taking advise of an agent (these don'tcharge any fees until a player is 19) if you are willing to offer the player a fair deal. Also, the boys recieved 1 set of kit to last them at least three training sessions per week and had no winter kit issued yet they were expected to train in the snow at Crofton, this wouldn't be an issue if you are given the right kit. If WTW want to keep their best academy players then they need to stop 'doing things on the cheap', and for all 0ther 1873 members you need to be asking 'where is my money going' because it isn't going on getting the boys the right tools to do the job, is it on coaches wages??? You look at Warringtons facilities for instance and they are a world apart from Wakefields. It's simple, most of these kids were happy with the coaching at Wakefield but when you go above that they were sold short, is a decent bit of kit too much to ask, even if you got a decent discount in the club shop most parents would subsidise getting kit but the club offers nothing, they are doing a job for the club, they should be provided with enough kit to last them.......'"
Yes i too would ask this, what are we getting, where does the money go, all we are told is its to develop the youth team, can someone put some meat on the bone so to speak.

| Quote TheRealist="TheRealist"Just a few facts to correct certain points highlighted on here.
A. Will Ingleby (Hudds), Fletcher Davies (Hudds), Ben Harley (Hudds), Will Dagger (Warrington), Will Oakes (Hull KR) all left for other clubs and a few left because they wasn't offered decent terms.
B. Wakefields Scholarship & Academy are excellent, it is the hierarchy at the club which are the Problem.
C. Will Oakes' decision was nothing to do with money, parent pressure etc.
D. Will Oakes had 9 Super League clubs to choose from, he visited all 9 and he decided which one he felt would best develop his skills.
E. Will was not originally from Humberside, nor was he Originally from Wakefield, he is originally from Halifax.
F. The decisions made by these boys can make or break their future so they have to do what they feel is best for the progress of their career.
G. If certain people didn't work at the top end of the pyramid at Wakefield most of these boys would still be there.
Wakefield do a great job with their youth but the next step is poor and that is not a reflection on the team it is a reflection on the board.
I hope this is clear, thanks for reading!!!'"
You know how on e-bay you don’t tend to trust sellers until they have made at least 50 transaction and have a 100% satisfaction . Especially the flashy ones claiming expert knowledge on specialist products blah blah blah.
Well that’s how I see you - 3 posts on ONE single issue. I’m not saying your wrong or questioning your right to post however compared to say BLM your ratings are low.
I’m made even more suspicious when the blame is laid specifically on another group of people who can’t defend themselves, again it’s not wrong but it makes what you say purely speculation and opinion and nothing more. Also smacks of hidden agenda.
So more meat on the bone please. Who are you? What are you? How have you come by this knowledge?
Thanks
PS: Wouldn't post so close to Tryscorer - it kinda gives the game away

| Vastman, I am posting on this issue because it is something that needs addressing, I know all the lads in question and am only giving you facts, I don't know 'tryscorer' nor am I making anything personal. I am not asking for anyone to defend themselves, I am just giving people the ins and outs of what I know about the academy system and questioning where our money goes (afterall I too pay my fees). Some good lads have yet again slipped through the net, and we cannot call the pursuing clubs afterall we have done exactly the same with otther players we have taken from other clubs into our academy. (Shaun Woffit (Hudds) and Judah Masive (Leeds) to name but a few....

| He's a bit young at the minute, but if my lad ever gets the opportunity at Wakefield (or any club for that matter) I'd pay for all his training kit myself if needed. I certainly wouldn't let him miss out on the opportunity to be a professional sportsman over something like training gear.

| Why is it every time people ask a question regarding the 1873 scheme the Calvary come out with attacks ,regarding the 19s I can only comment on what I see on the playing field and imo its been very poor over the last three seasons, proven by the league positions , if any dept isn’t wiping its own face (m/c s quote) its surely the 19s regime

| Quote TheRealist="TheRealist"Its not just about 'kit' my point is that the hierarchy at the club vastly under value these kids. Lets be honest most parents have never experienced it before so for their kids to get a pro deal is a big thing, and rightly so. But the club rightly or wrongly go in with a poor offer thinking that players will just sign up, this is why they advise against agents. Most other clubs I have spoken with are happy for their lads to be advised by agents because they have the well being of the player in their minds. As previously stated WTW do things on the cheap (which i think is atrocious when we are funding this academy), if they didn't do this I am confident that over the past few years they could have built an extremely successful academy (Before we start bumping on about developing 3 super league players, I have to disagree, we have three academy players with super league experience, when they have played a full season I think they can call themselves or we can call them Superleague players) JUST STOP UNDERVALUING THESE PLAYERS, what was offered to a number of them wouldn't even cover a years bus fare!!!!!'"
Players may earn more in the short term at other academies, but at Wakefield they'll have a much clearer route to the first team than somewhere like Wigan for example. Lewis Heckford is a prime example. A Wakefield lad playing at Wigan, bags of talent but currently has Ryan Hampshire and Sam Tomkins, amongst others, in front of him. Were he to be at Belle Vue now he'd be in with a realistic chance of first team rugby within the next 12/18 months. I've no doubt he'd be earning less but as we've shown with Nigel Wight, Gareth Ellis and Ben Westwood, if the players are good enough they'll get the big money move eventually and probably more cash than they would coming through the ranks.

| Quote TheRealist="TheRealist"No, I am most definitley not an agent but have dealt with a few in my time. I am someone that wants to see good English youth come through and flourish in our game. Lets support their development, not try and get what we can out of it. I was told by a member of staff at WTW that he would be happy for a player to come through the ranks, get super league under their belt and then they would be willing to sell them to get a return back on the investment (if any!!!). Is this the attitude we should have, shouldn't we want to see these players flourish in OUR team instead of cashing in on them when they have a value!!!!'"
But that's the reality of a club like ours. Until we're financially stable and winning trophies that will always be the case. And until then, selling talent at profit will help us become financially stable.
