Ellis was fantastic at 6 in the 2004 run in. Dont get me wrong, he obviously went on to become a very good player, but i always felt after what he did for us that year, that his talents were not fully stretched when he went to Leeds, basically because they had others doing some of the things he could have been doing.
He was allowed to settle (and often excelled) as a big hitting, edge runner, when for me, he could in fact have had more influence on games. Maybe not as a 6 but certainly as an old school ball handling loose forward.
If it had taken into account a few years earlier then Henry Paul would have topped the list. From game 1 he just looked in a different ball park to anyone else and whenever he got the ball at full back the opposition defence just stood back not knowing what he was going to do next. Wigan away will always be remembered for "that" try and ultimately sealed his move to Wigan.
without doubt for me the best player to have played for Trinity in the super league era not withstanding the present team was Danny Brough ( He is still the best player in super league) how we miss him now. but very closely followed by Davis Solomona the best 2nd rower in the world at the time
