| I had a similar episode in my late teens. Started in a run of the mill game, rolled my ankle. Usual thing, didn't let it recover fully, didn't give the physio enough time to get rid of the scar tissue and returned to playing within a couple of weeks or so, strapping with stirrups. As I protected the joint whilst playing I was OK, but I rolled it 2-3 times over the next 18 months or so, each time the ankle would swell terribly and bruise black and purple.
Got referred to the specialist at Huddersfield RI who told me the scar tissue had never healed and as a result my ankle was shot as the lateral ligament couldn't react quickly enough to stabilize the joint whenever I stood on uneven ground for example, but whilst I was playing and was strapped up, the stirrups did the work instead.
I had a full reconstruction, a Brorstrom Procedure. Spent around 8 weeks in plaster, 3 months in physio etc at Huddersfield.
I never really got back to playing, only a scattering of games spread over a few seasons. The joint has been fairly stable since, but I have rolled it a couple of times when either exercising with no strapping or walking, my confidence is also low on the joint and I have over compensated with my gate putting extra stress elsewhere.
My advice would be to take as long as it needs as once the damage was done in my case it has never been the same since.

| this is a annoying injury, while he can walk normally and do some light sprints its stilling showing signs of soreness so we got him to the docs to get him to a foot specialist, this was going to be within a month but now has been knocked back another couple of weeks due to cancellation
lot of respect for the NHS but boy is it under strain or what

| I can full relate to Musky's advice and experience. Whilst I've never been a professional sportsman I have suffered ankle injuries, pretty bad sprains at that. One I very nearly went unconscious it was that bad.
Even though I gave them time to heal naturally I can still struggle today if I'm not careful. I have a definite weak spot and can turn it over at any point. Such a shame, I love my sport although I don't really have any level of fitness.

| here's a good un
been to see a specialist today just to follow up on what the club physio had said about the foot having more movement, it took ages to get this and that was after a two weeks set back, well low and be hold it turns out he has chipped his ankle and has been referred for an MRI scan, the xray clearly shows a floating piece of bone but he did reassure us that he can still train and play as long as its strapped up
so Pinderfields await an angry phone call
