Quote: SaintsFan "I thought the match commissioner only had jurisdiction over the pitch? No mention was made of the match commissioner in the press release, only that the game was postponed due to the area surrounding the ground being deemed unsafe for spectators (because, let's face it, spectators are incapable of making a decision about safety themselves).
The game at Langtree Park went ahead on Friday night and the area surrounding the ground was like a skating rink with compressed packed snow and ice everywhere. Quite a few people slipped, even fell over. That's what happens when you walk on compressed snow and ice.
The match commissioner decided that the game was ok to go ahead at Langtree Park, and that was with the pitch covered in a few inches of snow to the degree that the stewards had to keep clearing the lines while the game was being played.'"
Then i'm afraid the mc has not stuck to the agreed procedure and probably won't be doing the job much longer.
The clubs wanted to play but it was deemed unfit by the rfl representative. Once that happens the clubs have no say in the matter whether they agree or not. My own opinion is it could have gone ahead but the guidelines in place say otherwise.
The fact that all the other nearby games at Fev, Dewsbury, Batley and Hunslet have all been postponed backs up the fact they are all reading from the same script.
