Quote: Horatio Yed "Part of Wire's resurgence was down to Mathers organisation of the defence, his individual defence isn't as bad as people make out eg 2010 CC final, Mathers defence completely nullified Leeds and was unlucky to not pick up Lance Todd that day.
Mathers is a cracking player but he's a confidence player and when it's shot or he's a little under pressure his form suffers for it.
You make a defensive error as a hooker, and you'll probably have a prop or a second row tidy it up, if they then miss you have your fullback. Fullback as we all know is all or nothing, you're a hero or a zero.
He's a great bloke to have in camp, top pro.'"
I said something similar a few weeks ago after he'd had a 'mare and was getting a lot of stick on here.
Overall, Mathers has been a great signing for us and despite a few wobbles, has added some much-needed experience and professionalism; from what I hear, he's become a real club man and can't do enough in terms of helping the other players.
If he's playing for a contract, he did himself no harm at all today - cracking performance.
