Considering Gotcha is usually so pessemistic on our board it's strange to see his arrogance in one of his favourites' qualities. Hope Smith goes well for you.

| Quote Theboyem="Theboyem"If this is a prelude to seeing how he goes before signing him fulltime for next year instead of mathers then i can see mileage in it. Better bet than Tansey or Mcgoldrick thats for sure. If its just as a stop gap for this season then its a waste of money as we have enough cover in the squad already.'"
Agree, although I'm not all that keen on this signing, especially when we have youngsters in our squad desperate for a chance. If we are keeping our options open regarding Mathers or any alternative then this is a sound move.

| Please don't assume all Leeds fans are as arrogant as Gotcha has been on this thread.
As for Smith, Ive spoken to him a few times as I coach his son and he comes across as a decent lad.
Sadly he hasn't performed well (barring the odd one-off) for a long time. You'd have to go back to 2008 to find his last consistent run of good form and then he was almost on his way but his performance in the Grand Final that year got him another year before he went to union.
Sadly I just can't think of any area where he excels. He's not particularly big, not particularly strong, doesn't have outstanding handling and has most certainly lost his pace.
Gotcha was also being silly claiming the only reason he's not in the Leeds team because his face doesn't fit or because the other players are regular internationals.
His face fits fine at Leeds, he isn't a disciplinary problem at all, the problem is his ability and performances have declined sharply.
If he was as good as Gotcha claims then he'd have been first choice to replace Webb when he got injured. Also Hardaker, Watkins & Jones-Bishop can't be classed as internationals yet.
Its great for Leeds, we get Smith playing at a better level than u20's. Not quite sure what he brings to Wakefield other than steady-as-you-go.

| It was probably a mistake going back to Leeds where the expectations of him were so high. A few good performances at Trin could reignite his career, although his fitness levels are a worry. For backs, speed is king.
On another point, to any Leeds fans (or coaches), please ignore the posters on here suggesting Aiton and Amor are any good. They're lucky to get a game at SL level. It's only because they play for lowly Wakefield, anywhere else they'd be in the 20s. Nothing to see here.

Without a doubt, very lucky.

| Quote Gotcha="Gotcha"Then I will take it back then. On the proviso that it is accepted that my 88 year old gran would have a shot at playing for Papua New Guinea. Granted, captain might be beyond though.'"
But the players in front of Smith play for England so it's a similar situation. Apart from Webb of course but he is only selected to argue with the ref and give away penalties.

We don't.
In fact he's the only Leeds fan being arrogant (and rather pathetic) on this thread.
Thanks for your input

| I like smith, young and english, bags of tallent and isnt afraid of bringing the biff, if he can recover his pre Ru form then I think he will be a good signing for us,
He always looked best in the centre so hopefully that's where he'll play
Welcome to wtw Lee

| Still a bit of a kick in the teeth for the younger players on the fringes of first team action. I imagine Walshaw will cover Mellors absence, perhaps Cowling could’ve covered Collis', at the very least for this weekend. Instead we get an out of form bit part player who clear doesn’t give a damn which club he plays for as long as he gets game time slotting in ahead of the younger players who will have been working hard all season to get their opportunity at SL level.
During the first half of the season it was quite apparent that only injury to regulars would likely be their way into the first team, this seems to suggest that Trinity will bring in scraps from other sides U20’s team before Agar will consider them.
