Shocking night
The letsgonorth campain has proved to be a disaster. Although the sentiments of this were ok and it would be great to have a "kop", the reality is that this instantly created a "fight" for space within the ground.
To demand segregation within a ground like BV with 3 days notice was ridiculous, and to then do so with just a few stewards made matters worse.
Our club insisted that around 3000 Cas fans should watch the game from an area that would hold around 1000-1500 was impossible and this position was made worse by the stance taken by RW.
However, there were too few stewards, althought the ones that were present did an excellent job.
There were around 15-20 blokes on the walkway on the north stand who, although "supporting" wakey, were not wearing club colours and they looked more like rent-a-mob. They were goading the Cas fans for the first 30 mins of the game, deliberatly trying to incite a fight.
When the trouble flared early in the second half, this group went further up the north stand at which poind we moved to the west stand.
This particular group were not rugby fans, they were there for one purpose only, to cause trouble.
On this evidence RL cannot be considered a family sport and the club must take much of the responsibility for creating this truly horrible and shambolic situation.
Hindsight is a wonderful thin, but the letsgonorth campain should never have happened.
Without it people would have probably have gone about their business as usual
