| Quote Slugger McBatt="Slugger McBatt"That doesn't sound good for Cas. Is that site better for Tesco than Wheldon Road, because that will be their only concern? Is the supermarket Tesco? Are they looking at a number of options?'"
Nothing will ever happen on the site, it will need millions and millions spent on it for decontamination and there's a power station on it with ~20 years left on the lease.

That's what everyone has been saying, there's not enough space to fit in everything they're claiming.

| The town planners and architects seem to think the space is big enough.
They also think the LDF should reflect the potential of the Hickson land.
I, and a few others, posted some time back that Tesco were playing several hands in this game - they are not in any way committed to WR and will go where the best, timely project can be delivered. Tesco's growth plans are under review at this moment though.
The ONLY positive for WR in this is that the competition from 2 rival sites, may force them to make a decision sooner rather than later. They may not choose WR, or indeed Castleford at all.

It might. I didn't watch the regional press on how St Helens or Warrington or Widnes or Leigh got new stadia built. I do live in Beverley and did live in Hull when the KC was built. We know where the KC is. I lived less than 1 mile from West Park when the planning applications and local chat were on. Many many locals objected. No parking.....devalue our homes....traffic...disruption...disaster. None of it came to pass. As it happens, Thornes Park was so comparable it was ridiculous, but that's gone now.
Hull CC MADE it happen because it obviously benefitted the area, in the face of objections of favouritism from the east of the city. I just hope the obvious benefits of this proposal defeat the petty and illogical objections. From reading this thread it seems...at last...it might....but can anyone blame a long term Wakey fan for hopeful pessism? This really matters to a big area. I've got everything crossed hoping.

| Why do we comment so much on Castleford and their own ground difficulties? I have no problem with Castleford and their ground plans, but could not give a damn in relation to where we are. 8 yrs ago we ought to have come up with a shared stadium in my opinion, but that has gone now. Our only option is Newmarket and thats our worry.

Personally, I'm interested in it because a) Cas is in Wakefield and b) it's RL related.
I don't see a problem with discussing it and wondering aloud what might happen; I'm hoping to get one of my predictions right one day, so I can quote my own post and say "I told you so." I'm that petty.

Surely imperative if posting on a Cas thread!

| Discussing Cas isn't always to be read as hoping they fail. I want Wakey's stadium to succeed. I didn't like RW sticking his oar in, hoping that he could 'pinch' the Yorkcourt development to get Glasshoughton off the ground, but on the assumption that Newmarket gets the nod, I hope Cas get all they want. I think they are a good club and have no desire to see them languishing in the Championship.
That doesn't mean that they can't be discussed. I was making the point that things are moving fast and discussing generally. Tesco's financial position has changed, as has their business plan, if the quotes in the Guardian are accurate. Are they going to hunker down for a while and stop expanding, and rebuild their core business? Are they looking at other options? Are they pretending to look at other options to get Wheldon Road at a price that is too cheap for Cas's needs? There are a whole number of variables that could cause problems, and it might be that Cas have hit a real unlucky time in Tesco's business structure.
Or it might be that Tesco write the cheque and everyone is happy. It will be an interesting year all over the district.

| Quote Gronk!="Gronk!"Actually, the statement in the full article is from Opus (that the deal will be signed next month....to Tesco).
Although just wait until next month where there will be an "unexpected" delay
'"
Read the article last night. The Opus guy stated they HOPE to sign a deal next month. Not will. As you say its been left open to announce another delay. You just get the impression theres another twist to come somewhere yet.

I worked for Tesco for a good while and still know people there; one thing that is absolutely certain, is that they don't give two hoots about CTRLFC or their need for a new stadium - what they care about is market share, profit and the ongoing war with their nearest rivals. In short, Tesco will do what is best for Tesco.
