In the 80's, Wakefield Trinity asked their supporters if they would like to contribute to the club. In return they would make them all Life members. Today, My Dad was informed along with 9 other pensioners (this is the total remaining) that they would no longer be regarded as life members. Supporters since the 60`s this has come as a shock. What are your thoughts ?

Quote: bren2k "Not mine either, but if it were, for the sake of a few quid, I'd have probably got the old codgers in question to come to the first home friendly and handed them free Gold memberships for the 2012 season on the pitch at half time. Get the WE down and try to do a bit of a feature about the history of WTW, what it means to the old lads, the good times they witnessed etc etc - add a bit of weight to the NM situation. The ideal person to hand their tickets over would of course be Mr Fox, with perhaps a couple of other players from different eras.'"

Having read all the comments I can see both sides of the fence here. Maybe as a gesture of good will a compromise might be offered by the new business which is now Wakefield Trinity? Perhaps a half price pensioners season ticket for life and retain the title life member? Or something along those lines. I appreciate its a different company now but to offer nothing for that commitment to Trinity in dire times in the 80's, seems an unneccessary PR own goal for just a handful of people. If you read this current club, I would offer them something along those lines as I think most Trinity fans will feel a little uncomfy about this.

Quote: Sesquipedalian "Barry Hough is one of the LM affected, he put over £200,000 into the club during the 80s, he paid for the building of the dressing rooms underneath the Cats bar, the very same ones the club uses today. He put the money up to make a number of signings bith 1st team and juniors and he never received a shareholding or anything other than his LM ticket.

This is the same Barry Hough that paid for Wally Lewis to come and guest with Trinity, paid his flights, accommodation, wages, provided him with a car etc.

He was a fairly wealthy man at the time but now in retirement he enjoys attending the games, proud of his part in keeping the club from folding when they were close to doing so on a couple of occasions.

On principle alone he will not attend another game!

That's wrong!'"

Blimey thats harsh. I think 'Spirit of 1873' kind of points to tradition and all the incarnations of the club. Trinity now should be supporting those who saved Trinity whenever since 1873 and I think Mr Hough is owed an apology and his ticket if this is the case.

If we knew we were moving to Newmarket, then that might have been a good time to start a fresh and possibly a new scheme.
