Quote: Slugger McBatt "Not heard a single good word said about Millward the man.
I think Noble tried to carry on the Bradford Dulls kind of play with a side that wasn't as physically dominant as the Bradford team. But you could apply the Millward boast to Noble, in that they've done well everywhere apart from Wigan, but Noble comes out best, in that he turned them around and built the foundations for Maguire. He just couldn't take them to the next level.
As for Barrett, he was very good, but only in patches. You say that he was frustrated by the coaching. I've never spoken to the guy, so I don't know, but I just got the impression that he never really settled in the UK and was always looking for the next plane home.'"
Millward was never going to work at Wigan. Noble had every opportunity but failed. He jumped ship at Bradford just as it all started to go wrong.
In his last year at Wigan he went to the press stating he was interested in other jobs etc etc.
Barrett was an out and out genius but had no pass selection due to the nature of the team, 2 years of drop offs and short balls killed him. Cant blame him for wanting to go home.
I also do not buy into this built the foundations line, with the exact same team he played 1 out rugby and underachieved, the next year we had bodies in motion running at gaps second wave attack and a far better conditioned team.
Noble is not the man for Trinity. Frying pan to fire springs to mind. There may be a short term boost but now we have an opportunity to look longer term and Noble is not the man to do that for me.
