What I'm upset by, is the eager acceptance by the RL community that WTW are a shoe-in to make way for Widnes. I'm particularly upset by the fact that the RL media, such as it is, have been complicit in creating that perception and have peddled it at every opportunity. I'm also mildly piqued at the glee with which they seized upon the mythical '£50 million deal' that RW invented - they did that because it added weight to the view that we are for the chop, not because it had any basis in fact or was in any way demonstrable as anything other than a PR stunt.
Perception, they say, is reality; it could be argued that a self-fulfilling prophecy has been created, in which the whole RL community has been persauded to accept that we're not worthy to sit at the tope table so that come June, the RFL's job is made significantly easier.
None of the above is the fault of the RL Express, but their 'joke' was poorly conceived, tactless and ill-advised, given the effect that booting a club out of SL will have on peoples livelihoods, the local economy and the development prospects for young, amateur players in the district. A poor show.
