I felt that Andy Kelly was one of the most badly treated coaches ever at Wakefield. No way did he deserve the axe, it basically ruined his career through no fault of his own.
That said this all happened ten years ago and the world has changed since then. If Kear is a dinasour as is often expressed on here I can't see how AK would be any better. He's been in and out of the game a while and has gained no SL experience.
I'm not suggesting AK would be a bad choice, just can't see where he would be an improvement.
As for the Wakefield Spirit bit, JK was the man who led the great escape of 2006, the most spirited Trinity performances in 40 years IMO. It's amazes me how quickly we forget and how selective our memories are. Andy Kelly has no edge over JK where Wakey spirit is concerned.
I'm afraid if we get a new coach (we don't IMO) for me he will need to be an Aussie, because frankly the English ones are not good enough.'"
I'm not picking an argument here because I agree with some of what you've said, neither am I seriously putting Andrews case except with Tongue in cheek.
Andrew has never been out of the game and is as qualified as a coach as it is possible to be. He is extremely well versed in the science of the game, physiologicaly, biomechanicaly, psycologically and in terms of new innovations which aid preparation and recovery such as GPS tracking etc.
He has a superb man management ability and a proven track record of bringing through young kids, knowing whenntheyre ready and recognising when they need a break due to physical or psychological fatigue. He also knows how to give a player that break without eroding their confidence.
Look how he got the best from Blanch, Gleeson and Grix during the RL World cup, all Wakefield players whose performances were of a standard higher than that displayed for Trinity that season.
As I said I'm not pushing Andrew for coach because as things stand I'll back JK but he's certainly not someone who can be discounted for the future based on the reasons you give.
