Quote J20="J20"As Widnes will put in a bid better than 3/4 current SL clubs it made sense for them to 'give hope' to other potential bidders knowing that they'd be putting one up anyway!
How many broken promises from 2008 bids? More than enough to boot at least one out!'"
right now, it is difficult to argue that under any system, Wakefield should be kept in, and they would, in all likelihood be replaced with Widnes anyway.
However, committing themselves to bring in a team from the lower leagues stopped them looking at the best fourteen bids. They are looking for the best 13 from the current clubs, and the best from the lower league.
Widnes would likely at this stage have one of the best 14 bids, but three years ago that wasnt guaranteed.
Clubs should be in SL in perpetuity, with only a meltdown like this seeing them drop out. Our aim should be to grow SL from this point.
