Hello, I am looking into writing a book about the idea of play-offs deciding the Champions in sport. I was wondering what the opinions are of fellow Rugby League fans on the play-offs. Do you think play-offs are the best way to decide the champions or do you prefer whoever finishes top being champions? And what do you think of the current format?
Personally I think play-offs are a great concept, sport is about peaking on the big occasion and beating your biggest rivals head to head when it matters.

I think they are a great idea and I like how the teams at the top get additional options/chances BUT I think the competition is over valued. The 'Champions' should be the league winners. If we would have come 8th and then won the play offs we wouldn't have deserved the title and i'm not so sure Stevo would have called us 'The Champions' every five minutes on Sky either!

Was he not a champion with Dewsbury, when they came from eighth to win the play off series?

In fact, he captained the Dewsbury team that won the championship in the '72/73 season. So, if Wakey won the series from eighth he would have to call us the champions every five minutes so as to not devalue his own achievement. How happy those words from his mouth alone would make me.

For those who are confused or underwhelmed by the club call 'gimmick'. Last year was the exception because 8th place qualified for the last 4 so the choice wasn't too difficult.
The position now, barring shock results, is that St.s will have to choose between Leeds, Wigan and Warrington.
Who would you choose?
Think they might go for Warrington and let Leeds and Wigan have another go at each other, but hardly an easy task and how motivated will the challenge cup holders be when picked as the easier option?

Poor idea. Champions are the team who finish top of the league.
I don't mind having play offs but they should be a straight knock out competition.
My team are 1 defeat away from not being champions despite only losing 2 league games all season, what a joke.
