Don't think anyone should let national politics taint their views on this.This is a local issue in the hands of local politicians. At the moment we basically have a council that gets its power from Castleford and the rest of the old mining towns in the East of the district. Anyone that stands up for the people of Wakefield will do for me.

The Tories always have been, and IMO opinion always will be, the party for the well heeled AND business owners. Thats why they support Newmarket - from a business viewpoint it ticks all the boxes (and by business I mean wealth producing enterprise, not wealth consuming enterprise like...somewhere else).

Completely agree. I've always voted Labour in general elections, but never at local level during the time I lived in Wakefield. The local labour party simply didn't represent my interests, and the monopoly they hold over Wakefield is unhealthy.
