| I have also watched since 60s and if the only option to carry on watching top-flight rugby in the area was to merge then I would be fully behind it, as long as the new team identity did not favour any side. Don't get me wrong I would prefer to watch Wakefield in its own right, but if it meant that we were on the sidelines while another team in the area got all the glory then to me its a no-brainer. It might also mean that we the supporters might enjoy a few more games rather than coming home from a match and feeling sick as a parrot again!!

I've also watched since the 60's and I agree with you. I'd rather watch a merged side provided its a merger rather than a takeover rather that drop into the NL.
I guess it comes down to what you want to see. If you want to watch Wakefield Trinity and are prepared to drop out of SL to preserve the name then that's your choice. I'd much rather merge if that's the only way to stay in SL. I will not watch NL when there is SL. Also I'd like to see a win or two and have a chance of winning some honours.
Of course everything could come together. Planning permission granted, stadium built, franchise for 2012, multi-millionaire put millions into the club and takes us the a Cup and GF double - then unfortunately I woke up.

| This merger talk really pi##es me off.
The WORST CASE scenario must surely be for WAKEY & CAS to share a stadium which is located centrally in the Wakefield area.
This way we have a show piece West Yorkshire arena can then be used by all other local sport clubs, cuts the costs of 2 stadiums and enables both Wakey & Cas to remain within SL.
It's a no brainer IMHO - especially in the current economic climate.

| I would vote for all clubs to stay on their own, i would hate a merger.

| My first thoughts were I could live with a merger as a last resort, at least it would give me an option as to whether I went or not as against not going at all. After reading the bitterness and resentment on the Cas board I hope it never happens, let them play in the championship if they want to, after all they are used to playing there anyway.

I think that is already a given mate, whether anyone likes it on here or not. Neither side is getting a next Franchise on its own, with it's current standing.

| After a lot of the mergers in oz, the original clubs continued/started back up, in the feeder/lower leagues, is this not a possibility...for cas'
if we are in a position to continue in SL and they are not, and they are unwilling to go down the route of merger, they will be in the lower leagues anyway?
Before any cas fans come on here flagging me off, I know this scenario could work either way.
Some time, a bitter pill may have to be swallowed, maybe sooner than anyone really would like.

Seconded.
However, I've no problem with sharing a ground.
