Hi everyone
I dropped off a copy of the latest flyer and letter doing the rounds ( www.wakefieldangryresidents.com) at the Wakefield Express office yesterday (I didn't make a special trip, I was having my eyes tested at Boots next door anyway) but unfortunately Emma was not in. I have just spoken to her on the phone, she thanked me for dropping off the information and she has had another word with the News Editor about running a story. They are still very interested and probably will run the story, but not until there is another development to run this story alongside/in response to, or maybe the week prior to the planning meeting, once a date has been confirmed.
I certainly hoped that they would run this story sooner rather than later and I know many of you did too, but she does think they will run it at some point so did kindly ask you all to please bear with them on this. In some ways a story just the week prior to the planning meeting could be more valuable and have just as bigger, if not bigger impact!
In the mean time I know that TRB was going to be ensuring that the local politicians where aware that this latest flyer, and new faux group W.A.R, was exactly the same very small group of people creating yet another vehicle to scaremonger and upset as many people as possible by spreading half-truths, and in most cases, blatant lies. Top bloke old TRB!
Emma did ask people to write to the letters page and not only express their support for the development but also to de-bunk these two so called groups. I am hopefully going to put a letter together and get that sent in this week, being careful not to name names but make it clear that this is just a small group of residents whose only interest is stopping the development at all cost because they don't want it near them, pure NIMBY's!
Oh, I have also tracked down Mr Cliff Carl of Moorhouse, who wrote the letter to the express a couple of weeks ago! He lives as close to the possible development as it is gets without being a resident on Newmarket Lane. He is on-board and is going to start to let people know who W.A.R really are and find other people on Moorhouse who are in favour of the development. That means we have valuable allies in Bottomboat (thanks to Catwoman1) and now Moorhouse.
It should also be noted, for those of you that have not seen the latest W.A.R flyer, that they have now dropped the tactic of supporting the development of the stadium and just opposing the associated development and are all out against the whole thing! I told you it was a tactic and that is clear now given nothing has changed but they seem to have changed their minds!!! How strange!!! They are talking about all the cars parking around the streets on match days, they are even saying they have contacted Metro and they have said they are NOT going to be running buses on match days (which we all know is rubbish, plus I know that Arriva are certainly planning to look at running match day special buses form the bus station and also, I suspect, will already be talking to the council about the providing the park-and-ride service).
So if anyone tell you that these people are happy for the stadium to go there (as many have said to me), please tell them that no longer is the case, and they have bizarrely changed their minds about that now!!!
I am going to be away now for a couple of weeks from this Saturday, having a nice holiday with my wife and our little boy and partaking in one of my other loves, diving (well, as often as I am allowed to sneak off the odd morning). I will have my iphone with me, so if anything urgent comes up I will post it, otherwise I will post upon my return with any future developments!
Finally, keep writing letters of support to planning, or post on the planning portal. As the nice men from W.A.R points out, you can write letters from all members of your household, including Children, so get one penned quickly (they must be slightly different to count as more than one) on behalf of the spouse and then one for each of the kids... but not the dog, cat or hamster! Domestic pets don't count!

| It’s a shame all those photocopied letters with a hand written address and name only count as one objection, no really.
With respect to the WE, they didn’t exactly need to wait for a development to publish the story of the objectors. A very strange response from them.
Still we’re very much in debt to your efforts, hopefully it will have been worth it come June!!!!!
Have a good holiday.

| If I were James Elston, I'd be looking for a pow-wow with the top bod at the WE sooner rather than later, to try to find out why they have such an ambivalent attitude to their City's only professional sports team. Surely some work can be done to redress the relationship and get both organisations working for each others benefit? The stadium development brings it in to focus, but I'm talking more generally too - they don't seem to give a t0ss.
The general lack of interest, enthusiasm or pride in the club in key areas of the City is astounding; the WE, WMDC, the PCT, the LEA - there are some great partnership opportunities there that just don't seem to be firing. It's very frustrating.
Rant over - thanks for all your hard work on this IA; you're something of a marvel.

I do like your enthusiasm for the job - but there is a constant dialogue with the WE and we seem to go along nicely for a while and then - bump! we come back down to earth.
They have generally been a lot more positive of late and it is for the club to ensure that the WE are left with the clear impression that they are better off with us than against us!
