| I could go with supporting a completely neutral merged team (even tho I have supported Wakey since 1960). Let's face it, if one of our teams did not get a franchise next time they aren't going to get back in SL.

| Quote Prince Buster="Prince Buster"Good old steady you are one of the reasonable Cas posters and everything you say is spot on.
On a final point although people live in Fev and Cas like just about everyone else we all live in Wakefield. You may not want to call it Wakefield but thats where it is and it would be still in Wakefield even if it were in Glasshoughton.
So as for teams colours lets adopt the colours of the District of Wakefield, they might not be perfect for the fashion police but they are neutral and represent the wider community.'"
Perhaps not quite the WMDC colours but I think it looks smart;
Plus this is the Wakefield District coat of arms, perhaps this could be incorporated into the badge.
… and some [url=http://www.wakefield.gov.uk/CultureAndLeisure/HistoricWakefield/CoatOfArms/WakefieldDistrict.htminfo[/url about it.

| As a stand alone location then in my opinion glasshoughton is a better location purely down to the leisure facilities that already exist. However, because of the more sensitive nature of a merger between the two parties concerned then newmarket lane is the best option we have for all. (I can cycle to either so i'm alright!) Normanton would have been ideal as mopsey has stated, but that ship has sailed unfortunately. I genuinely do think the time is upon us as fans to bury the hatchet and work together for the best possible outcome. We wont get another chance. It would be a crying shame to see the young talent that both clubs currently posses playing for teams outside the district.

Funding wise the only location is Newmarket. Glasshoughten does indeed boast an area already developed around the leisure industry but unfortunately there does not seem to be a funding package that will see the stadium become a reality.

| With quite a few people saying they would be happy with a merger and that's the only way to compete each season,so do those people think that Trinity will not be success or at least the chance of it if we get the stadium built and move, because personally i think the stadium is the only thing holding us back and once we move the crowds will come and the team will improve.

| From the point of view of the fans flooding back, I think the stadium is a bit of a pink elephant, supporter apathy and the club, taking us for granted are the main reasons.
I would like to think that a well run well supported Wakefield trinity could be a success, but we have neither and as time goes on, we will eventually be manipulated into a merger I'm sure.
Unless cas' go t*** up!!
And inspite of peoples best intentions towards both cas' and fev' if they were to be involved, we are all in Wakefield and that name should live on followed by whatever you like!!!

The real benefit at Newmarket over Glasshoughten is the location. I know technically it’s in Wakefield but at approx. 4m away from each centre its equidistant. I know Cas have outline PP but Newmarket has the funding which is not transferable to any other site, merely because of the surrounding development.'"
It depends what location benefit you're talking about though, Glasshoughton is arguably the best commercial site for a stadium in the UK... it would increase attendances massively and has very good access by road and rail.
EDIT: I should read the whole thread first mind

| Lets face it when two teams merge, it usually means the end for one of them at that level. For example Huddersfield / Sheffield, Gateshead /Hull. I know people are talking about a new name, but is it realistic that the wakey / cas fans could support one team. When most of them struggle to be civil to one another about their teams at the moment ?

| I think that people would come regardless of prior loyalties if the team were successful, playing attractive rugby in a decent stadium. Nobody (especially kids enjoys going to see their team getting soundly beaten every other weekend), which seems to be the norm at the minute.
As someone mentioned earlier we have a great tradition of RL in the area and produce a lot of promising youngsters who we invariably lose to the bigger clubs.
The economic reality in the short to medium term is that if the area is to have a team capable of challenging the bigger clubs merger is the most viable option. It's probably something that will be forced upon us as I could not envisage the owners/management of Wakey & Cas willingly persuing the idea. The worst case scenario is both clubs fail to get a license and interest in the sport at a grass roots area dwindles.
