Quote sandcat20="sandcat20"Eric Clay and Billy Thompson - now there's two names to bring back memories. They refereed in black jackets and white shirts if I remember correctly and wasn't Eric Clay nicknamed Sergeant Major. Certainly not to be messed with.'"
Yes mate and hankies in the top pocket

I had the honour of serving my apprenticeship under a great Cas player in the sixties and his brother also played for Cas. Cas played Fev in a midweek evening match and said brother was tackled by Mal Dixon late in the game. Dixon on all fours proceeded to give said brother a prolonged facial and my mentor ran 20 yards and kicked Dixon square up the as hard as he could. We then had the hilarious sight of prop forward Dixon trying to chase and catch a winger before things calmed down and my mentor was sent off. His slow walk to the tunnel was applauded by every one with much laughter. He told me next morning that he had pleaded with Clay that "he's my brother" Clays response was "I don't care, even if it had been your mother your still going off"
Another I remember was Cas at home to Hull. Billy Thompson ran out of the tunnel and the Hull fans (who had populated the Princess Street stand opposite) proceeded to chant "who's the bar steward in the black. Thompson ran all the way across the pitch to confront them, pointed at his chest and said "I am"
Sadly those days have gone.
