Once upon a time Stanley had its own council. Its borders stretched from Dent Drive on Eastmoor including Parkhill Colliery over to St Johns Colliery at Normanton, Kirkhamgate used to be in Stanley and you had the farcical sight on Dewsbury Rd where Abduls is of 3 lots of Dustbin lorries emptying bins, those being Ossett Wakefield and Stanley councils. The area of Stanley at one time was huge. Just one thing is the new stadium being built in Stanley or is it being built in Methley because Methley has a Leeds postcode and therefore neither of us would be playing in Wakefield.
Just one other thing fwiw Newmarket Colliery was in the No8 Castleford area.

Chissitt is right, it was Stanley Urban District Council. Wakefield was the old Wakefield City Council and Stanley was not part of Wakefield. I believe the City of Wakefield started on Stanley hill just below the Btish Oak. It only became part of Wakefield when Wakefield District Council was established as did Castleford.

Credit where its due I wouldn't refuse him the credit he's due for that one, not trying to trash his contribution for one moment. Bin trying to think of how to spin a stadium share since this thread was launched but all my ideas were rubish!

Save your sarcasm for the Cas fans matey its wasted on me. I was just trying to qualify what Sandal cat wrote about Wakefield and Stanley being two seperate entities. Perhaps you and Pyeman should get together and discuss the merits of ground sharing between you, on a personel note it does not interest me.
