Being Goosey can someone tell me Is this a good thing?

Well I'm not happy about it. Then again I'm a York fan.

It will be for York it frees up loads of cash for new players.

Surprising that this has been announced on Look North before Club's Website, Facebook page or Twitter feed.

What's the point of having these if we get the information elsewhere beforehand? They should be the first point of call for all club news.

According to the press in York. We are going to pay, a 5 figure sum in compensation to the Knights.
If this is the case with his wages he better do a good job.

This is a statement from York City Knights.

From the club:

The club can confirm that Jason Demetriou has accepted an offer to become
the new Head Coach at the Keighley Cougars following Barry Eaton's move to
the Crusaders. Jason informed the club of his decision on Tuesday afternoon
and we are now waiting to hear from Keighley regarding a compensation deal,
which we expect will be a five figure sum. Although we are disappointed to
loose Jason we wish him all the best for the future.

You can't knock the bloke's record as a player, lets hope he can do the same as a coach.

I did not regard him as an automatic choice, but having thought about it am now quite pleased. I'm glad Mat and Glen are staying.

As for compensation to York, I think that he was upfront from the start with them about applying for our role so wouldn't he have a get out clause?

Now he's here we should give him our full support, this is going to be an important season. Other sides have strengthened and we will have a fight all the way if we want to be in contention for promotion.

Can't wait for the start of the season now.

Based on the latest rugby league weekly unless I am mistaken Cougars new player coach had a get out clause in contract with York if either a super league club or chance to coach arose. If as suggested York expect compensation I will be suprised if it is more to appease York fans more than any legal contract issue but I may be incorrect. Even the most diehard York fan can see as Cougar fans did with Barry this is the right step for the new player/coach. The fact he will play as well is massive. If he can make same level of year on year improvement as Barry did with the shackles of administration and previous board removed I see a big future for the club. Finally great news both Matt Bramald and Glen Barraclough are staying their involvement cannot be underestimated.

Only York and Jason Demitriou will really know whether or not there is a release clause in his contract.

Best leave it for the clubs to sort it out themselves, it does nobody any favours everyone speculating on the matter.
