I feel very sorry for Nigel, he came across as a good bloke. His humour added something that you can't put a price on.
If he hasn't been paid on time then it's pretty bad form from the club. It's unfortunate that throughout all walks of life (not just at Cougars) those that go the extra mile quite often get taken for granted, even treated poorly.
With regard to a CRB check, the certificate is actually called a "disclosure", because it is disclosing certain information from police records and various "lists". Technically there is no pass or fail but in reality people using them think of them so because you either pass or fail your employers requirement to do the job. CRB disclosures have to be used in accordance with a code of practice.

I feel sorry for Nigel also. Whilst being a good physio, he also brough a light-hearted air to the club. A sad day when he left.

Things like this have happened like this for many years people at the club in high places shafting those lower down the ladder.
Im sure its not the club club it happens at and thats why rugby league will fail to become more than it is
